'Sinister' ship blamed for Wellington hum

The culprit behind Wellington's mysterious hum may have been a grey and sinister navy ship, though the Wellington City Council is not yet entirely convinced.

A low-pitched humming sound has been troubling residents in the Mt Victoria, Newtown and Mt Cook area since Saturday.

Many are now pointing the finger at the Singapore navy frigate Stalwart which was berthed in Wellington Harbour for the past week, but a few complaints to council have continued since the boat's departure yesterday.

The constant hum has attracted up to 40 noise complaint calls since Saturday and about 30 emails theorising on the cause from around the country.

Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean said the frigate left Wellington yesterday and though many on the waterfront had theorised the ship was to blame, there had been two more calls in the past 12 hours.

''A lot of people are saying they think it's the frigate. It's a plausible explanation because they usually have large diesel generators on board. It was a pretty large, grey, sinister-looking ship.''

MacLean said council would be watching the phone logs carefully to see if the number of calls died down now that the ship had left.

He said over the past week, council had received emails from across the country with everyone wanting to share their theories and experiences.

''Someone was telling us it was made by bugs flying around or swarms of insects. Others thought it was the ventilator on top of Mt Victoria. It's obviously not causing anyone any great angst apart from reports from a few people being kept awake by it.''

This week the council had sent noise control officers to two call-outs related to the hum but MacLean said people had mainly just been wanting to report the noise rather than have council come and listen.

He said it was not yet certain that the hum had been caused by the frigate but that proof would be in the pudding.

I do know that "they" are tunneling. I know that for a fact however I have not been informed of the exact locations. It was my understanding that the tunneling was worldwide but primarily in Russia and the United States. The main reason for it is to move information secretly between two "hubs." There is also a lot of research being done with sound technology. Apparently there are a lot of military uses to ultrasonic sound projection which I imagine that some people and almost all recording devices would be sensitive to.

I hope they do find the source of the hums,I see that Windsor is just across the river from Detroit geography was never my strong subject but parts of Europe experience this too . It is curious though.Sure is alot of strange stuff going on thesed days.

I have heard of the tunneling too. They're also using it for storing information, in case of a catastrophe too from what I understand.

Re: Loud booms or rumbles Happening Again!

yes, i also saw where they're in some portions of Europe. These are strange times. I wonder what the connections are? Too bad people didn't keep track of strange phenomena because you gotta ask has that happened in history? Unfortunately without keeping records we'll never know.

Well, the sounds/noises are worse than I've EVER heard them to date. Starting from about 11pm tonight, and lasting in approximately 15 minute intervals, it has begun, once again. I hadn't heard anything for the most part of the winter. This time, I thought it was helicopters again. Nope, not a chance. I went outside to see, came back in and grabbed the recorder. The playback, as usual, doesn't do it justice, but at least this time it can be heard without amplification. We're going to amplify it before putting it up and show both the amplified and original recordings. It sounded at one point as if half the city was falling into some sort of cave-in.

It's now just after 12:30am, and I'm only writing this NOW because it's been going on again for the last 5 minutes or so. Oh, and there, it JUST stopped. Relief, I must say.

Anyhow, that's where we're at with this. :)

Re: Loud booms or rumbles Happening Again!

Oh, and I should probably not the direction the sound seemed to be coming from. When I first walked outside (before getting the recorder) the sound was coming from SSW, upon going back out, recorder in hand, the sound was closer to being direct south. During the recording (hopefully I can amplify this part) there was the sound of something very unusually large moving from west to east. I can't hear it on the playback at normal volumes, but I could hear it with my ears.

I'm a bit late to the party here. I can remember noises, bad smell, and earthquakes in the Denver area in the 1960s. Rocky Mountain Arsenal was functional then. Tthe would pump water used in their various productions into the ground. It affected the water table and the stabilty of the local bedrock. Concerns have been expressed that fracking will bring on the same type of problems.

Finally, as promised for a while now, I have the audio. I would've had it up sooner, but I had to learn how to edit it to make it louder. I am providing both the actual volume recording as well as the maximum amplification in both .mp3 and .wma formats. One unfortunate thing about this audio is that if you don't have any bass on your speakers, you won't hear anything until 1:55 in as the sounds are all lower prior to that. Even with the amplified audio, it still doesn't do justice what I heard with my ears.

If I've done this correctly, the following order should be correct.

Unedited, original sound:
View attachment March 22 2013.mp3
View attachment March 22 2013.wma

Maximum amplification:
View attachment March 22 2013 Full Gain.mp3
View attachment March 22 2013 Full Gain.wma

And one of these days, hopefully soon, I'll get this audio into a video for youtube. :)

Then, about a week later, a Black Trianger UFO was spotted over nearby Detroit. Is there a correlation? Discussion on that has begun in the following thread:

Unbelievable as it may sound I have heard this sound. I am part of the metro Detroit area and I have heard this sound. It was a very low bass sound. It occurred all day and I asked everyone around me if they heard this. They didn't. At the time I thought that I was getting sick and the pulsating sound was the result of it. So I ignored it. Until today.

It's nice to have someone else come on here who has been hearing this sound too. It drives me crazy sometimes. There was supposed to be some research done to find more out about it, but I don't know what that has turned up as of yet, if they've found out anything at all.

There are nights where there is a sound that starts up sometime around 10 or 11 -ish at night and continues for hours. This one not the bassy one like what was recorded above. This new sound I started noticing back at the end of March beginning of April. It sounds like a lawnmower or small propeller airplane that doesn't move, almost but not quite. I don't know how else to describe it. Have you heard anything like that? or just the bassy sounds?

I wonder if the sound you are all hearing is similar to the Taos Hum. Some thirty years ago, I started hearing the Hum in my hometown in SE New Mexico. It started blocking my ability to even think at times, so deeply pervasive it was. I asked my grandmother, who had lived there for over 70 years by that time if she could hear it. She could not and had never done. I started asking around town and there were a very small number of people who also heard it. For me, it was bad enough that I had to leave.

Since your sound is only evident for some shorter periods of time, it may not be the same thing, but it could be a similar sound and may have a similar source. There are a lot of hums out there.

There are times it runs for long periods, and other times for a few short hours. It ranges sometimes too. It is really distracting. It's not every day, but it's very often.

The last time I spent extended periods in my hometown, it ran for ages, to the point that I had to leave. Even when I went back for the weekend (this was in my college days), it would come back full force within hours. The longer I'm gone, the longer it takes to creep back in, though I suspect that even now it would only be a matter of days until I heard it again should I ever choose to return.

We just really need to figure out what it is. There is a lot going on with the Earth at present. More now than for a long time. Once again, we're in for some fun shortly.
