(NaturalNews) Another day, another headline about the dangers of a synthetic chemical in our food… This time it’s PFOA, or perfluoroalkyl acid — the non-stick chemical used on cookware surfaces. According to a study just published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, high levels of PFOA were strongly correlated with an increase in both total cholesterol and LDL “bad” cholesterol.

Typically, high cholesterol is treated with a second chemical intervention — statin drugs. Statins can produce devastating side effects including kidney and liver damage (http://naturalnews.com/statins.html), muscle weakness and eye problems. So now we have a situation where people ingesting PFOA chemicals may be inaccurately diagnosed with cholesterol problems and be prescribed dangerous chemical medications that cause even more health problems.

This study looked at 12,000 children who were exposed to PFOA through their local water supply which was contaminated with PFOA. It does not prove a link between non-stick cookware and cholesterol, although it suggests a possible link that should probably be researched further.

PFOA is on more than just cooking pans

PFOA isn’t merely found on cooking pans, by the way: Nearly all cooking surfaces for electric consumer food prep appliances are made with it: Sandwich toasters, griddles and even popular cooking devices such as George Foreman Grills.

You’ll also get PFOA from most restaurants because non-stick cooking surfaces are commonly used to prepare your omelets, pancakes, pasta sauces and many other menu items. Avoiding PFOA is nearly impossible unless you prepare all your own food at home, and even then, you must be extremely careful with what food prep devices you use.

Even Swiss Diamond pans which claim that you’re “cooking on diamonds” are actually made with PFOA chemicals (http://www.naturalnews.com/021059.html).

I have avoided non-stick cookware for many years and wouldn’t dare prepare any food on such an item made with dangerous chemicals, but most consumers don’t know about the dangers of PFOA, and they continue to cook their food with non-stick pans. It gets really dangerous when people use forks or metal spatulas to stir their food in such pans because this action scrapes off microscopic bits of PFOA chemicals that then become lodged in their food and swallowed.

My advice is to avoid all non-stick cookware. Buy stainless steel cookware with copper plating on the bottom, which helps disperse heat and prevent burning. Better yet, eat more raw foods and superfood smoothies which require no cooking whatsoever.

The mere act of cooking food in a pan, after all, creates carcinogens in the food. The only “safely” cooked food is steamed or boiled. Anything that subjects foods to very high temperatures — frying, broiling, grilling, etc. — results in the creation of cancer-causing chemicals in the food itself. And that’s true whether you’re using a PFOA pan or not.

US authorities have begun to consider approval for the first time the sale of genetically engineered salmon, a move that some say could open the door to more transgenic animals on American dinner tables.

A US Food and Drug Administration panel has set a hearing for September 19-20 to consider a proposal by Massachusetts-based AquaBounty Technologies for production and sale of a new Atlantic salmon with a growth hormone gene from the Chinook salmon that allows it to grow faster.

The company said the genetic change allows the fish to grow to market size in half the time of conventional salmon but that in all other respects, its AquAdvantage salmon “are identical to other Atlantic salmon.”

The new strain of salmon can help meet rising demand for fish and reduce pressure on wild fish stocks, the firm contends. It says it can avoid the pollution, disease and other problems associated with saltwater fish farms by raising the salmon at inland facilities.

(NaturalNews) Nearly half of all Americans now use prescription drugs on a regular basis according to a CDC report that was just released (1). Nearly a third of Americans use two or more drugs, and more than one in ten use five or more prescription drugs regularly.

The report also revealed that one in five children are being regularly given prescription drugs, and nine out of ten seniors are on drugs.

All these drugs came at a cost of over $234 billion in 2008. The most commonly-used drugs were:

• Statin drugs for older people
• Asthma drugs for children
• Antidepressants for middle-aged people
• Amphetamine stimulants for children

America has become a nation of druggies. The seniors are being drugged for nearly every symptom a doctor can find, children are being doped up with (legalized) speed, and middle-aged soccer moms are popping suicide pills (antidepressants).

Prescription drug addictions are on the rise, too. Prescription drugs are so dangerous that now even the DEA is hosting “take back your pills” day allowing citizens to anonymously surrender their unused prescription painkillers to DEA agents. (http://www.herald-dispatch.com/news…)

Interestingly, DEA agents will only accept “legal” amphetamine drugs such as Ritalin but not “illegal” methamphetamine drugs. You’re only off the hook if you paid monopoly prescription prices for your drugs.

And it’s only going to get worse

The percentage of Americans taking prescription drugs is expected to rise even further as the health reform insurance regulations kick in. Much of the bill was specifically designed to favor pharmaceutical industry interests by putting even more people on medication. Expect to see more “screening” too — a thinly disguised drug recruitment method that primarily seeks to ensnare new patients in a high-profit drug regimen.

The mass medication of American citizens has reached a disturbing tipping point where the future of the nation itself is at risk. That’s because pharmaceuticals cause cognitive decline, and once you get to the point where over 50 percent of the voters can’t think straight, you’re trapped in a crumbling Democracy.

And that doesn’t even take into consideration the financial cost of America’s addiction to drugs: With nearly one out of every five dollars out of the entire U.S. economy now being spent on sickness and disease, America finds herself stuck in a cycle of high-cost drug treatments that cure no one.

That’s right: No one gets healthier from taking prescription drugs. They don’t cure anyone and they don’t prevent disease. They only maintain patients in a kind of “pre-death stasis” where they’re alive just enough to keep buying more medication. Drug companies don’t want you dead because that would cut off their profits. But they don’t want you healthy, either, because then they wouldn’t have you as a customer. So their drugs are actually designed to keep you in a state of ongoing disease without curing your condition but also without killing you outright.

You sort of chemically limp along, shelling out dollars while your memory fades and your skin starts to show signs of severe toxicity. Big Pharma is not merely sapping the life out of you; it’s also draining you financially.

Isn’t it obvious that pharmaceuticals don’t work?

If pharmaceuticals really worked to make people healthy, then the half of America currently taking pharmaceuticals would be the healthiest half, and the people who don’t take pharmaceuticals would be unhealthy, right?

But in fact it’s the other way around: People who take pharmaceuticals remain unhealthy and really never get cured of anything. Meanwhile, those who avoid taking pharmaceuticals are, by and large, far healthier individuals.

If America were running a grand experiment to determine whether pharmaceuticals really work — and trust me, the country really is running precisely that experiment — any reasonable observer would have to conclude that pharmaceuticals really don’t improve the health of those who take them. The more pharmaceuticals you take, in fact, the sicker you will become. That’s because drugs cause an imbalance in the body that soon leads to the emergence of other side effects.

At the same time, many of the drugs people take actually cause the very things they claim to prevent. Osteoporosis drugs cause hip fractures. Cancer drugs cause cancer. Antidepressants cause suicidal thoughts. The list goes on and on.

The people who are really, truly healthy in America are those who avoid pharmaceuticals. Yet even though it is blatantly obvious that pharmaceuticals really don’t work to improve the health of any population, the drug industry insists the only thing wrong with America’s health is that not enough people are taking medication!

If we could only get 100% of the population on drugs instead of 50%, they seem to be saying, then we’d all be healthy!

The logic is absurd, of course. And that goal has nothing to do with actual health but everything to do with increasing drug company profits. While drug companies may not know much at all about health, they do know one thing: How to commit marketing fraud by making outrageous benefit claims for their drugs while whitewashing the very real dangerous side effects.

Big Pharma will bankrupt America

Mark my words: Big Pharma will bankrupt America. And quite possibly the UK as well. Any nation that hands over its health care system to the drug industry is committing financial suicide.

That’s because Big Pharma absolutely will not halt its single-minded mission to extract as much money as possible from the population, corporations and governments. It will do anything and everything it can to accomplish this goal: Bribe researchers to commit research fraud, engage in false and fraudulent marketing, lie to the public, hide negative study results, conduct experiments on children in third-world countries, pollute the planet with drug factory runoff, influence legislators with campaign finance contributions, dominate the pages of medical journals with false and misleading advertising, submit “scientific” articles to the journals ghost-written by the drug companies themselves… this list never ends.

Drug companies will knowingly keep dangerous drugs on the market that kill tens of thousands of people. They will knowingly withhold research from the FDA if it might make their drugs look bad. They will knowingly distort clinical trial data to eliminate whatever outcome they don’t want to see.

This is all “routine” in the drug industry. These aren’t exceptions, mind you: They are the way the drug industry operates on a daily basis.

The worst part of it is that Big Government is now fully in bed with Big Pharma. I already exposed Sen Harry Reid’s efforts to swing a sweet deal for Big Pharma in the recent health care reforms (http://www.naturalnews.com/029450_H…). The FDA’s collusion with drug companies, meanwhile, is legendary: There is hardly a decision made by the FDA that doesn’t in some way protect drug company profits.

The med schools and science journals have been overrun by drug company influence. Drug companies are so large and powerful now that the U.S. government considers them “too big to nail.” When Pfizer was recently found guilty of felony crimes, the government allowed it to create a shell company to take the hit so that Pfizer itself could remain in business and keep selling drugs to the government. A federal prosecutor actually went on the record saying, “If we prosecute Pfizer… a lot of people who work for the company who haven’t engaged in criminal activity would get hurt.”

Therefore, the logic goes, they have to let Pfizer off the hook.

And so it goes; Big Government protecting the criminals in the drug industry, making excuses for looking the other way when scientific fraud and marketing fraud is routinely being carried out right under their noses. The Dept of Justice isn’t even interested in taking down criminal drug companies!

How this will end

So where does this medication madness ever end? It will end, I predict, with the economic downfall of the United States of America. When the nation is too broke, too medicated and too chemically compromised to stay afloat, it will suffer an enormous economic collapse.

Following the financial failure of big government, Big Pharma will implode virtually overnight. Without the government buying its products, Big Pharma will find few willing private customers. Ordinary people will seek out affordable and safer natural remedies, and the drug industry will collapse to perhaps 10% of its current size.

This will be a great day for the health of all Americans who have suffered under the chemical assault of Big Pharma. To live without the daily onslaught of Big Pharma’s chemicals is to live a healthier life with improved brain function and awareness. Once people get off all their drugs, we might have hope to thoughtfully rebuild a nation based on nutrition rather than monopoly-priced medications.

I’ve said this at least a hundred times, and I’ll say it again: No nation that ignores the nutritional health of its citizens has any real future. A successful long-term society MUST, at its core, invest in real nutrition and the holistic health education of its citizens. Without good nutrition, every society is ultimately doomed to fail.

Modern medicine, in other words, is destroying our country. And the “cure” for this disease is to throw out what doesn’t work (pharmaceuticals) and start embracing the things that do work (nutrition and superfoods) to keep people healthy.

The aluminum content of a range of the most popular brands of infant formulas remains high, and particularly so for a product designed for preterm infants and a soya-based product designed for infants with cow’s milk intolerances and allergies, researchers have found.

Aluminum is the third most abundant element (8%) in the Earth’s crust, exceeded by oxygen (47%) and silicon (28%). The United States is the world’s largest aluminum producer, followed by Canada, Australia, Norway, Brazil, and Germany. The United States is also the world’s largest aluminum consumer.

One wonders, after examining all the different areas covered our various analyses (vaccinations and encephalopathy, electromagnetics, etc) if orthodox science is really ignorant of the sensitivity of infants and children to environmental contamination, or know about it and they don’t care because there is another agenda afoot.

The permeability of the gastrointestinal tract of the infant is quite great, as protective mechanisms have not yet fully developed. It is this very fact that allows many of the substances in human mother’s milk to systemically permeate the body of the infant.

Unfortunately, the same lack of protection seriously impairs an infant who consumes infant formula, especially soy formulas, and bovine (cow) milk. Whether the pasteurization process (aluminum vats and piping) contributes to the amount of aluminum in milk, or it involves the feed the animal is eating, is unknown.

Research indicates that aluminum concentrations in most cow milk is 20 times greater than human breast milk (5-20 mcg/l) and 100 times greater in soy-based formulas.

A study by a team at Keele University in Staffordshire, led by Dr Chris Exley with Shelle-Ann M Burrell, demonstrating the vulnerability of infants to early exposure to aluminum serves to highlight an urgent need to reduce the aluminum content of infant formulas to as-low-a-level as is practically possible. The research has been published in the journal BMC Pediatrics.

Infant formulas are integral to the nutritional requirements of preterm and term infants. While it has been known for decades that infant formulas are contaminated with significant amounts of aluminum there is little evidence that manufacturers consider this to be a health issue. Aluminum is non-essential and is linked to human disease. There is evidence of both immediate and delayed toxicity in infants, and especially preterm infants, exposed to aluminum and the team contends that there is still too much aluminum in infant formulas.

There has been a long and significant history documenting the contamination of infant formulas by aluminum and consequent health effects in children. Through these and other publications manufacturers of infant formulas have been made fully aware of the potentially compounded issue of both the contamination by aluminum and the heightened vulnerability, from the point of view of a newborn’s developing physiology, of infants fed such formulas.

There have been similar warnings over several decades in relation to aluminum toxicity and parenteral nutrition of preterm and term infants. To these ends the expectation would be that the aluminum content of current infant formulas would at the very least be historically low and at best would be as low as might be achieved for a processed product. The team tested this premise and found that the aluminum content of a range of branded infant formulas remains too high.

The researchers chose 15 different branded infant formula products. These included powdered and ready-made liquid formulas based on cow’s milk and a soya-based product. The categories of formulas included those for preterm babies, stage one (0-6 months) and stage two (6 months plus) infants. All products were stored according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Products were sampled directly from their packaging to avoid extraneous contamination. Ready-made liquid products were shaken between each sampling.

In general, the aluminum content of formulas prepared from powdered milks were significantly higher than ready-made milks.

But a new study recently published in the online, peer-reviewed journal Public Library of Science (PLoS) One proves otherwise, revealing that organic fruits and vegetables pack a greater nutritional punch and produce better, healthier soil than their conventional counterparts.

John Reganold, professor of soil science at Washington State University Regents and author of the new study, and his colleagues conducted the most comprehensive analysis of its kind on commercial produce soil and the strawberries that grow in it. Reganold and his team analyzed 31 different chemical and biological soil properties–including soil DNA–and performed tests on the quality, nutritional value and taste of 26 different strawberries from both conventional and organic fields. And what they found is truly astounding.

Organic strawberries contain far more antioxidants, vitamin C and beneficial polyphenolic compounds than conventional strawberries, and they have a longer shelf life. Organic strawberries also contain more dry matter per volume–meaning more actual strawberry–than conventional ones do.

In an unbiased taste test, samplers indicated that organic strawberries taste better overall, both in terms of sweetness and general strawberry flavor. And when viewed side-by-side, organic strawberries are more visually appealing.

But it does not stop there. In soil tests, organic soils tested extremely rich in key nutrients, enzymes and biological and chemical elements, that are otherwise lacking in conventional fields. Such soil nutrients are vital for producing nutritionally-rich fruit, as well as for maintaining healthy soil conditions that preserve and promote environmental integrity.

The study also revealed that organic produce can be raised with the same–or better–yields as conventional produce, but without all the harmful chemicals and pesticides that destroy both human health and the environment.

'A Boston lab hired by the United Commercial Fishermen's Association to analyze coastal fishing waters says findings suggest the government's claim that Gulf of Mexico seafood is safe to eat may be premature.

The lab, Boston Chemical Data Corp., said it found dispersant in a sample taken near Biloxi, Miss., almost a month after BP said it had stopped using the toxic chemical to break up the record amounts of crude spewed by the Gulf oil spill. The leak was finally capped on July 15.

The lab posted its data today on the website of the Louisiana Environmental Action Network in a move that could fuel the debate over the status of the cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico.'

(NaturalNews) Popular anti-seizure drugs may seriously increase a patient’s risk of suicide and violent death, according to a study conducted by researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The drugs, known as anticonvulsants, were initially designed for the treatment of epilepsy but are now widely prescribed “off-label” for conditions such as bipolar disorder, migraine headaches and pain.

“We all know the range of uses of these medications is very, very wide,” researcher Elisabetta Patorno said.

The researchers examined the prescription and medical records of more than 300,000 people above the age of 14 who had been prescribed an anticonvulsant for the first time between July 2001 and December 2006.

All of the drugs, they found, significantly increased a patient’s risk of attempted or successful suicide, as well as violent death by other causes. During the course of the study, there were 801 attempted suicides, 26 successful suicides and 41 violent deaths.

“We found increased risk for suicidal acts beginning within the first 14 days after treatment initiation, opening the possibility that anticonvulsant medications could induce behavioral effects prior to the achievement of their full therapeutic effectiveness,” the researchers wrote.

Based on prior studies, the FDA ruled in 2008 that all anticonvulsants must carry labels warning that they double the risk of suicidal thoughts and actions. These older studies had not been able to determine if any drugs posed higher risks than others, however.

In the current study, researchers compared the rates of suicides and violent deaths among users of topiramate (sold generically and also marketed as Topamax), gabapentin (marketed as Neurontin), lamotrigine (marketed as Lamictal), oxcarbazepine (marketed as Trileptal), tiagabine (marketed as Gabitril) and valproate (marketed as Depakine and Epilim). They found that the risk was lowest in topiramate, and roughly equal in the five other drugs.

(NaturalNews) It’s hard to see it sometimes, but the natural health community has achieved many important victories over the last few years in exposing the truth about dangerous chemicals and food ingredients. Here are some of the major victories we’ve collectively achieved:

High-Fructose Corn Syrup exposed

We’ve been victorious in spreading the word about the dangers of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which I call “liquid sugar crack.” The public has learned so much about the dangers of this refined ingredient that food manufacturers are now switching away from HFCS and using more natural refined ingredients (such as evaporated cane juice, which is far better for you than HFCS).

You can even buy Hunt’s Ketchup now, which declares right on the front label, “NO High Fructose Corn Syrup!”

Not surprisingly, the Corn Refiners Association has spent millions of dollars trying to obfuscate this issue by claiming HFCS is perfectly good for you. They’ve attacked virtually every news organization that writes about HFCS, and they run television ads that try to spin the issue in their direction, but they’ve failed! The public still knows that HFCS is linked to diabetes and obesity, and they don’t want any more of this refined liquid sugar in their diets.

BPA – the plastics chemical

The truth has also come out recently about the dangers of Bisphenol-A (BPA), also known as the “plastics chemical.” This chemical, which is found in virtually all canned foods (it’s in the can liner), plastic bottles and other plastic food containers, has been found to be a “hormone disruptor,” meaning it interferes with the normal healthy functioning of the hormones that control your body functions.

The outcry against BPA has even gone mainstream now, with mainstream news organizations covering the issue with greater frequency. Momentum is clearly building in favor of legislation that would outlaw BPA in all plastic food containers, and Canada seems poised to add BPA to its list of toxic substances.

The American Chemistry Council, of course, is outraged by any hint that chemicals might be bad for your health, and they’ll continue to fight any new legislation in the USA. But in the end, the ACC will lose, because BPA is dangerous for your health and they can’t cover up the science forever.

MSG – the excitotoxin taste enhancer

We’ve also been victorious in a very big way against MSG (monosodium glutamate), the chemical taste enhancer that’s used in sausage, beef jerky, salad dressings, gravy mixes, and all sorts of fast food. (It’s found in practically everything served at KFC, for example.)

While we haven’t yet succeeded in banning MSG, we have raised awareness to such an extent that even soup companies are now competing with claims of having “No MSG” on their labels. As the public learns even more about MSG, we can expect to see more food companies removing it from their products.

Loophole: Many food companies are switching from MSG to yeast extract, which is a “hidden” form of MSG that’s used for the same purpose. If you are avoiding foods made with MSG, be sure to avoid all foods made with yeast extract, too. Trans Fats – the fat that kills

In addition to the items mentioned above, the natural health community has achieved considerable success in the battle against trans fatty acids — also known as “trans fats.” These are health-harming fats created out of the process of hydrogenation of oils. When you see “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil” on a food label, you know that item contains trans fats.

Trans fats are extremely dangerous for human consumption because they slowly promote deadly degenerative diseases like heart disease and cancer. They have absolutely no place in a healthy food supply. In time, they will probably be banned altogether.

Vitamin D is the new “hero” nutrient!

Through tireless efforts, members and leaders of the natural health movement have succeeded in raising global awareness about the amazing health benefits of vitamin D, the “miracle” nutrient that prevents cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, kidney disease, depression and much more.

Even sunscreens are now being exposed as toxic chemical lotions that block vitamin D production and actually promote vitamin D deficiency!

More organics in retail stores
In the United States, Target stores now carry a decent selection of USDA organic fresh produce. Costco stores are increasingly carrying organic products, and conventional stores that used to shun health foods now increasingly have “natural foods” sections where people can find organic food items.

As consumers are becoming more aware of the dangers of chemicals in their foods (and the benefits of organic foods), the surge in demand for organics is forcing nearly every food retailer to offer a selection of organic items.

This is progress! Just a few years ago, the idea of finding organic strawberries at Target stores would have seemed ridiculous.

Even Whole Foods, by the way, is improving its organics profile. For example, after tremendous pressure from the Organic Consumers Association (www.OrganicConsumers.org), Whole Foods declared that it would soon stop carrying “cheater” organic body care products that have the word “organics” in their name but aren’t really organic at all.

Upcoming victories
I believe the natural health community will achieve yet more significant victories in several important areas of public health. Here’s where you can expect to see a lot of progress in the years ahead:

Aspartame
Although this chemical has remained difficult to remove from the food supply, the truth is getting out now about the real dangers of aspartame, and it’s only a matter of time before this artificial chemical sweetener is fully exposed (and banned from foods and beverages).

Mercury is extremely toxic, and even the American Dental Association can’t hide that fact forever. Before too much longer, we will see the ADA finally cave in on the issue of mercury and announce to its member dentists that mercury is no longer an acceptable substance to use in dental fillings.

It’s not just toxic to dentists and patients (and dentists suffer an unusually high rate of madness due to mercury exposure, by the way); it’s also an extreme risk to the environment. Thousands of tons of mercury are released into the environment each year due solely to the use of the toxic metal in modern dentistry.

The battle is still raging, and companies like Monsanto are pressuring the FDA to ban honest food labeling that would warn consumers about GMOs in the grocery store, but in the end, the “right-to-know” effort will be victorious. Consumers don’t like being hoodwinked, and they don’t want to eat GM foods that might unleash pesticides in their own gut.

Vaccines
Under the relentless pressure of stubborn facts, the modern mythology behind seasonal flu vaccines is quickly crumbling away. People are waking up to the fact that such vaccines are not merely worthless; but that they often cause harm!

(NaturalNews) A recent study published online in the journal Biology of Reproduction further reveals the disruptive nature of bisphenol A (BPA) in gene expression. According to the data, pregnant mice exposed to BPA experience significant genetic changes in their fetal ovaries, indicating that the next generation of their offspring will likely be born with serious genetic defects.

Dr. Patricia A. Hunt and her colleagues at Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, Wash., exposed female mice to levels of BPA roughly equivalent to the levels humans are exposed to on a regular basis. The team discovered that in as little as 12 hours after exposure, egg production in exposed mice suffered reproductive damage. They believe exposure even altered the reproductive capacity of the mice’s grandchildren.

According to the study report, BPA exposure negatively affects mitosis, the process by which cells divide their nuclei chromosomes in order to reproduce into new cells. BPA also disrupts other normal cell cycle functions and DNA replication, which researchers say can potentially shorten the “reproductive lifespan” of females.

What makes BPA particularly dangerous is the fact that very low levels of exposure to it can cause significant harm. According to reports, there have already been more than 200 studies conducted about BPA’s dangers, many of which implicate the chemical as being highly dangerous even at extremely low levels.

One such study that appeared in the journal Reproductive Toxicology found that newborn animals exposed to BPA experience uterine damage.

“The researchers indicated that such damage is a possible predictor of reproductive diseases in women, including fibroids, endometriosis, cystic ovaries and cancers,” explains Andreas Moritz in his book Timeless Secrets of Health & Rejuvenation: Unleash The Natural Healing Power That Lies Dormant Within You.

(NaturalNews) A product survey conducted by The Independent found that the toxic chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) is used in 18 on the 20 top-selling canned food products in the United Kingdom.

BPA is one of the most widely produced chemicals in the world. It is used to harden plastic in everything from infant and water bottles to mobile phone and computer casings, and also to make linings for cans of food, beverages and infant formula. Yet a growing body of research has implicated the chemical as an endocrine (hormone) disruptor that can lead to cancer, birth defects, behavioral problems and other diseases.

The FDA recently reversed its position on the safety of BPA, acknowledging concern over the chemical’s effects on the development and brains of infants and young children. This move sparked a new, still-ongoing review of the chemical’s safety by the European Food Safety Authority. The British Food Standards Agency still maintains that BPA poses no health risks.

The Independent surveyed manufacturers General Mills, Heinz, Spam, Asda, Baxters, John West, Princes, Premier Foods, Sainsburys and Tesco about the use of BPA in the liners of several of their canned food products. Together, the 20 products represented account for £921 million ($1.4 billion) in sales, or 43 percent of the total for all canned food sold in the United Kingdom.

Every manufacturer sold at least one product lined with BPA. The only cans not lined with the chemical were those containing Tesco canned fruit and Tesco Value tomato products. Yet Tesco and Tesco Value canned fish both came in cans lined with BPA.

Other top-selling products in BPA-lined cans included soups, baked beans, corned beef, canned pies, chopped ham, long spaghetti and Green Giant Niblets.

Claire Dimmer of Breast Cancer UK called for manufacturers to clearly label all cans that are lined with BPA.

“Otherwise it’s impossible for us to make a decision on ways of limiting our and our families’ exposure to this chemical,” she said.

(NaturalNews) A new study out of Imperial College London suggests that fast food chains start giving out free statin drugs to customers in order to help balance out the negative effects of the junk food on their bodies. The scientists who worked on the study actually say that taking a statin drug with a fast food meal undoes most of the damage otherwise caused by eating it.

“Statins don’t cut out all of the unhealthy effects of burgers and fries. It’s better to avoid fatty food altogether. But we’ve worked out that in terms of your likelihood of having a heart attack, taking a statin can reduce your risk to more or less the same degree as a fast food meal increases it,” explained Dr. Darrel Francis from the National Heart and Lung Institute at the college, author of the study.

The team is suggesting that statin drugs be handed out for free — without a prescription — to fast food customers with their meals. Dr. Francis even referred to statins in an interview as “supplements” rather than drugs, comparing them to the condiments one would put on a burger and fries.

But the belief that statin drugs are no different than food or supplements and are safe to hand out to people like candy is preposterous. Not only do statin drugs deplete the body of necessary enzymes like coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and prevent the body from producing it, but they damage cells and muscle tissue in the body.

“We know that statins cause muscle damage, but even in people without any symptoms or abnormal blood tests, muscle biopsy shows cell injury,” explains Mark Hyman, MD, in his book The UltraMind Solution: Fix Your Broken Brain by Healing Your Body First.

'A research study out of Duke University has found that a dangerous mutated form of an airborne fungus called Cryptococcus gattii is spreading across the Northwest United States and some parts of Western Canada. The fungus, which typically only infects people with autoimmune disorders and compromised immune systems, now seems to be infecting healthy people as well, worrying experts.

Published in PLoS Pathogens, a journal of the Public Library of Science, the report explains that the new fungus is currently infecting people across the Pacific Northwest region and its scope is continuing to expand. Though the fungus was originally discovered in tropical and subtropical regions, it is somehow thriving in temperate regions far different than its native home.'
