Bright objects float away from space station

The spacewalk Tuesday was meant to replace a video camera and update cable connections to a module of the International Space Station.

However, the question every space buff wanted an answer to is: "What was that I just saw floating away?"

Two objects drifted away during astronauts Fyodor Yurchikhin and Mikhail Kornienko's six-hour assignment.

When the first one swam by, even NASA was befuddled as to what it was.

"Meanwhile here on the ground in Houston, flight controllers have been taking a look at the object seen floating away earlier in the spacewalk around 12:44 a.m. Central time," said the voice on the live NASA feed of the spacewalk.

"Still working to identify exactly what that object was, but they were able to determine that it does seem to have floated below the space station and it should not pose any sort of a problem for the space station as far as posing a debris threat."

Later, NASA spokesman Rob Navias said the object may have been a clamp used to attach cables, and it might have been left outside during a previous spacewalk.

An hour or so after the first fly-by, a small round object made its way into the darkness of space.

"Team here moving the cameras to follow another object that seems to have floated away," the NASA voice said this time. "A small round object that you can see in the middle of the screen here... Possibly a washer or something similar."

Navias said officials will do a photographic analysis to figure out what it was.

But, he said, "It's not unusual at all to have one or two objects float away during the course of a six-and-a-half hour procedure outside an orbiting space station."

The astronauts replaced a video camera that will monitor the docking of future Automated Transfer Vehicles, or supply ships.

They will then attach cables connecting the rest of the station to the Russian Rassvet research module.

At approximately 11.00 am on Wednesday, 6 April 1966, a class of students and a teacher from Westall High School (now Westall Secondary College) were just completing sports on the main oval when an object, described as being a grey saucer shaped craft, with a slight purple hue and being about twice the size of a family car, was sighted. Witness descriptions were mixed: Andrew Greenwood, a science teacher, told "The Dandenong Journal" at the time that he saw a silvery-green disc. According to witnesses the object was descending and then crossed and overflew the high school's south-west corner, going in a south-easterly direction, before disappearing from sight as it descended behind a stand of trees and into a paddock at The Grange in front of the Westall State School (primary students). After a short period (approximately 20 minutes) the object - with witnesses now numbering over 200 - then climbed at speed and departed towards the north-west. As the object gained altitude some accounts describe it as having been pursued from the scene by five unidentified aircraft which circled the object

After six decades the truth has emerged about the infamous Maury Island UFO incident of 1947. It was a hoax. It finds its roots in fiction and fantasy, as revealed in candid and damning interviews with Maury Island UFO "witness" Harold Dahl's own son and daughter. The hoax is further detailed in a careful re-examination of the "mysterious" figure Fred Crisman.

It is alleged that in June of 1947, seaman Harold Dahl was with his son scavenging for drifting logs near Maury Island in Puget Sound in Washington State when Harold sighted several "donut shaped objects" flying in formation over his boat. He claimed that one of the discs appeared to lose control after being tapped by another disc, spewing out slag and strange pieces of light metal material which hit his boat. The falling UFO debris supposedly injured Harold's son Charles and killed the family dog. His story was reported to his co-worker Fred Crisman and was later promoted by publisher Ray Palmer...

A CHINESE airport was dramatically shut down after baffled air traffic controllers spotted an incoming UFO on their radar systems.

Planes were grounded and flights were diverted away from Xiaoshan airport in Hangzhou City, in the country's east, after the mysterious glowing object appeared on monitoring instruments late Wednesday night, the Shanghai Daily reported.

In a further twist, the closure followed several supposed sightings of a strange airborne object across the city, with locals reportedly seeing a comet-like fireball in the sky.

Airport authorities immediately notified passengers to stop boarding and grounded all planes about to take off as flights were rerouted to neighboring airports in the cities of Ningbo and Wuxi, Xinhua news agency said.

The unexplained object soon vanished from radar screens but flights were delayed from taking off for a further four hours.

An airport spokesman said an investigation was underway, but refused to elaborate.

A local bus driver, giving his name only as Yu, told Xinhua he had seen a strange glowing object in the sky late Wednesday afternoon.

"The thing suddenly ran westwards fast, like it was escaping from something," he said.

However meteorological experts poured cold water on the supposed sightings, suggesting that people had seen nothing more sinister than sunlight reflecting off conventional aircraft.

Long Description of Sighting Report

Judy was driving in to her job as a Home Health Aide and saw what she thought was a hole in the storm clouds, she had her cell phone with her and took a picture of the hole in the clouds. When she got to her job, she told Tim Pxxx that she had seen a strange hole in the storm clouds on the way into work. He downloaded the picture on to his PC and saw the patterns of lights on the object, the trailing disturbance in the clouds and called me up on the phone. He sent the picture to me for my opinion.

To me, I can see the rain drops on the windshield and the image on the other side of the drops, there is no reflection in the glass.
