Borax apparently has some healing properties:

The Borax Conspiracy
How the Arthritis Cure has been Stopped

By Walter Last

You may not be able to imagine that borax, this humble insecticide and laundry detergent, has the potential of singlehandedly bringing down our entire economic system. But you do not need to worry, the danger has been recognised and the necessary steps are already being taken to defuse the situation. I will start with the basics and you will understand what I mean as the story unfolds.

Borax is a naturally occurring and mined mineral salt and the source of other manufactured boron compounds. The main deposits are in Turkey and California. Chemical names are sodium tetraborate decahydrate, disodium tetraborate decahydrate, or simply sodium borate. This means it contains four atoms of boron as its central feature combined with two sodium atoms and ten molecules (or sometimes less) of crystallisation water. Therefore, borax is the sodium salt of the weak boric acid. Because sodium is more strongly alkaline, this makes a solution of borax strongly alkaline with a pH between 9 and 10 (pH 7 is neutral). When ingested, it reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form boric acid and sodium chloride. The boron content of Borax is 11.3% while for boric acid it is 17.5% or about 50% higher. Ingested boron compounds are rapidly and nearly completely excreted with the urine. Formerly boric acid was widely used as a preservative in foods but is now banned for this purpose in most countries, and is also banned from public sale in Australia.

I don't know how much of that I believe. I accidentally ingested some borax when I made my own dishwasher detergent. It left a film on my dishes and utensils. Just that little bit of it ingested made me feel very ill. Once I cleaned off the residue, and went back to premade dishwasher packs, I felt much better.

I agree that borax is great for cleaning, I use it for getting caked on oil off of things, like my deep-fryer and stuff, but I don't put that stuff in my system.

More research definitely needs to be done, apparently it contains lots of fluoride as well. I thought I would post it because it was interesting I want to bring it everybody's consciousness.

Agreed, more research should be done. Actual research, not the fake stuff we always hear about.

I can understand the posting of the information, hey, if it may be something that can help people, I agree, it should be shared, sure. Nothing wrong with that. But anybody reading ANYTHING like this, should ALWAYS air on the side of caution and never go full on with ANYTHING if they ARE going to try it.

But for me, it was accidental ingestion, and I got sick. Just sayin.

I have heard crazier things that became true. Big phama would not like any of us to know about this if it was true.

Well, i'm not purposely ingesting any Borax anytime soon. Accidental was enough for me to avoid it for anything other than cleaning.

I don't know about healthwise, but we inherited some roaches from our next door neighbor who refuses to get rid of boxes kept outside which is now falling apart because of rain. We know they're from her, we never had them before, and our kitchen and bathroom are adjacent to hers, this is where we see them all the time. Well we finally mentioned it to another friend and she gave us some Borax. So far have not seen as many as we once did.
We complained about the stuff which is out back on a walkway in the dirction of the garbage cans to the property management twice and so far nothing has been done, it takes up the whole sidewalk outside her apartment, and I have to walk on the ground around the stuff to carry out the trash, We don't like to make trouble, but on the verge of calling code enforcement to report this situation since noone has done a thing about it. Sorry just rambled. But we don't like bugs.

For a situation such as calling to report this, you have to think "what is the RIGHT thing to do?", and then do the RIGHT thing. Do the right thing BECAUSE it is the right thing to do, and then you've done what is truly right. When your actions help not only yourself but others as well, and no actual harm is done, just hurt feelings, then the right thing becomes quite obvious.

I agree with what you say, which is why I don't really wish to call code enforcement. I'm in hopes the Borax will take care of the situation permanently. It's just a little inconvenience, and a little messy out there, so far I've seen no mice or rats outside thankfully. I just can't figure out someone who does this. I guess she must be a little "off" to put it politely.

My grandmother always believed in the Golden Rule. :) She raised me by it, since my mother passed when I was 9. I reallly don't wish to cause harm to anyone.

I never heard of it either but two different people recommended it to me. The one was my friends temporary Occupational Therapist, and she brought us some of hers, so far it seems to be working, they're slower then what they were, and not as many, you sprinkle it around the perimeters of your place the baseboards, is where I put it. :)

P.S. Don't know about if you have pets or small children though.
