Marx was related to the Rothschild family.

Nathan Mayer Rothschild married Hannah Barent-Cohen, daughter of Levi Barent- Cohen and wife Lydia Diamantschleifer and paternal granddaughter of Barent Cohen and wife, whose other son Salomon David Barent- Cohen married Sara Brandes, the great-grandparents of Karl Marx.

Nathan Rothschild had given Marx two checks for several thousand pounds to finance the cause of Socialism. The checks were put on display in the British Museum, after Lord Lionel Walter Rothschild, a trustee, had willed his museum and library to them.
