SANTO DOMINGO.- More than 15,000 people have now been evacuated form rain-soaked communities, as the threat of mudslides in the last few days continues.

In its latest report the Emergency Operations Committee (COE) said of that total only 237 people are in shelters and the others were taken to houses of relatives and friends.

It said the flooding destroyed 72 houses and damaged 2,956, whereas the provinces of the northeast and east are still under an alert.
