Automated self-serve, and RFID chips gone amok. JCPenney to be first to contribute to more unemployment in this country.

I haven't been to a JC Penney in awhile, but it used to be a decent store now with these new implementations, I dolubt I'd ever walk into a JC Penney again for anything. I hope their stupid idea back fires on them big time, but it won't.

You see I used to work in retail, those "sales" you get many people don't know the dirty little secret is they mark-up the items maybe as high as 50% before they put a "sale" on them. Unfortunate that many people will never believe this. These people or not in business to give customers a "break on items."

Another clue as to the state of the real economy.

Here's the story:

JCPenney’s To Eliminate Check-Out Clerks « CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It’s been a hundred years since James Cash Penney opened his first store in Wyoming.
Now, the retail chain – with more than a thousand outlets – is struggling to turn a profit even though lots of people love the store.

Penney’s CEO Ron Johnson says the store will switch the traditional bar codes on price tags to RFID’s – or radio frequency identification chips – and use self-service checkout machines found in many grocery stores.

RFID on all items, now, it won't be long until all department stores moved to this type of technology. At least not trying to put it in us, yet!

Of course, retail upper echelon being the greedy self-effacing individuals will be happy to follow suit, (I know they're greedy when they disrupt their employees holidays to stay open on Thanksgiving or Christmas, they want the very last penny they can get. Fortunate I was out of that business by the time those ideas came long. I feel sorry for those who have to put up with their big bosses greed.

Probably will wind up wanting to do this, because I would imagine there will be "problems galore" with the self-check out system, then they'll have to revamp another plan to make it "right."

I absolutely hate self checkouts, when I have a small amount of items it's not that big of a deal use the self checkouts. But when I have a lot of items a cashier is usually much quicker than I could ever be at getting the items through the scanners. So I always go to a cashier when I do my groceries.

I'm also wondering of what are the chances of somebody figuring out how to make their own RFID chips, placed them on items and drastically reduced prices they are paying and basically walk out with a more expensive item(s). Anytime you introduce new technology you introduce the possibility of it being hacked. And who's going to pay to prevent this hacking, you better believe it's going to be the consumer.

Fortunately where I shop they don't have any self-checkouts. If they did I probably wouldn't use them. Usually my luck to find at least one item without a price. Have no idea how they would handle it if that happened, with a self checkout. That's there problem, for now. :)
