Dangerous Knowledge, David Malone takes a close look at four mathematicians – Georg Cantor, Ludwig Boltzmann, Kurt Gödel and Alan Turing – whose thinking profoundly influenced modern mathematics but also drove them (or so the program argues) to insanity and eventually suicide. Cantor gave us “set theory.” Boltzmann made important contributions in the fields of statistical mechanics and statistical thermodynamics. Gödel is remembered for his incompleteness theorems. Turing built on Gödel’s work and laid the foundation for computer science. They all spent their difficult final years in various states of mental decline.

I think we may not be wired to figure this stuff out?

Pi (1998)
The mathematician Maximillian Cohen is tormented by a severe migraine since he was a kid, and he uses many pills to reduce his painful headaches. He is a lonely man, and his only friend is his former professor Sol Robeson. Max has the following assumptions, which rules his life: (1) Mathematics is the language of nature; (2) Everything around us can be represented and understood from numbers; (3) If you graph the numbers in any systems, patterns emerge. Therefore there are patterns everywhere in nature. Based on these principles, Max is trying to figure out a system to predict the behavior of the stock market. Due to his research, Max is chased by a Wall Street company with obvious interest in the results of his studies, and by an orthodox Jew follower of the Torah, who believes that this long string of numbers is a code sent from God. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0138704/

Pi is one of my all time favorite movies about numerological obsessions.

It's a must see movie if your all left brain and logical.

If your into butterfly's and fairies this is probably not for you

I thought you hate Jewish people like Max Cohen on this site and that you think they are part of the Illuminati conspiracy.

I guess you don't. That is good, as Jews have made many contributions to mathematics. Consider Gregori Perlman, John von Neumann, Paul Erdos, and Darij Grinberg, for instance (not so much the latter.... yet...).

You claim to be SO intelligent, yet you can't even see that the claims you make about the people on this site and this site itself "hating Jews" is flawed. Those are posts by 1 user. If you look at the original poster of all the anti-Jew stuff, you'll see only one name. That name is Rehmat. Please don't accuse us all of hating Jews. I personally have nothing against anyone. Well, yes I do actually. I have a problem with angry people who can't wrap their heads around anything that is even remotely possible. ie. you. You seem to be filled with anger and hatred and just want to oppose anything that anyone has to say.

Obviously from your posts, you are a man of science and that is all you can see. I feel sorry for you, I really do. You are lost. You only believe that which can be proven, and even that which has been CLAIMED to be proven, but has not.

I'm sure by some of your posts, it won't be long before someone kicks you off this site. People like you don't last long around here. We don't like trolls. I'm all for freedom of speech, but you make assumptions because you cannot or do not read. This post was from Unhypnotized, not Rehmat, so of course your assumptions are leading you in the wrong direction, once again.

Of course he is here to hate, SUNGAZER, look: troll is in the name! lol There is nothing profitable going to come out of his contributions even if he does add some knowledge not yet touched upon...

Fact- this universe is an ethical universe. this is proven to us every day of our lives through our suffering and hardships as well as our love and good fortune. Reason should never be abandoned but, it MUST be transcended.

I know, and he shouldn't be given any opportunities to do his trolling. I feel so sorry for him is all. Such a closed-minded individual.

You speak words of wisdom. We need to move beyond belief (which includes reason), sometimes it's a hard thing to do.
Even just being angry with people like this troll I know is wrong, and I do catch myself, but it's hard.

Every day, move forward, even with a little backward motion, the ultimate is forward motion.

All this over math and apparently Jews. It's ridiculous.

First, no human is intelligent. There is so much to learn. Second, I have seen names other than Rehmat on these illuminati things that say that Jews (the Rothschilds, etc.) are part of this illuminati thing. Furthermore, I've never claimed that everyone on this site hates Jews, but clearly you believe that because your grammar has serious problems and you apparently believe that "you" is plural. Also, you are clearly a very weak man/woman as you said you didn't have anything against me but then turned around in the next sentence and said you did. Couldn't you just have deleted what you wrote? Or are you so full of yourself that you believe anything you ever write should never be erased even if it's wrong? Also, are you so arrogant that you believe anything bad that happens to you is caused by the illuminati?

And as for what you said about me only believing what can be proven, you clearly have not seen approximately 9% of my posts so far. The post I am referring to is the one where I defended religion even though it cannot be proven. Also, I believe in Godel's incompleteness theorem, which says there are true things that cannot be proven.

In your last paragraph you attack me with an ad hominem argument saying that I make so many assumptions and do not/cannot read. Unfortunately, in your previous statement you said that I only believe in things that can be proven, the exact opposite of this.

Also, here is an honest question. Do you believe that there is some secret group called the illuminati that is trying to take over the world? If so, why would their symbols be everywhere? Wouldn't that make more people aware of their existence, which would not help them in their goal of controlling everything?

Wait, to clarify, does everyone on this site believe in the Illuminati conspiracy?

I think it would be hard to find any single thing that all people on this site (or any other) believe. I found this site seeking some specific info on spiritual development. I see many here involved in their own ways.
You have been caught in your own conclusion here, brother. I advise you to see two points here:
1. Max Cohen is a fictional character in the movie PI. This thread has nothing to do with conspiracies, Illuminati or otherwise, it is info about a movie.
2. You will never gain understanding of individuals through generalizations. Everyone's motivations are different.
