Loneliness is the human condition. No matter how many friends and lovers you are surrounded with, you come into this world alone and you go out alone. In a way, all our social networks we build are illusory attempts to stave off the consciousness of our essential aloneness. As a great philosopher once said, “Consciousness is a wound.”
