CASPER
THE FRIENDLY GHOST
Not all Entenmann's donuts are affected by the recall. Donuts recalled include: Powdered, Cinnamon and Rich Frosted Pop 'Ems. These are the miniature donuts packaged in 10-10.5 ounce paper bags with a plastic window.
Also recalled are 8-count Sugared, Powdered and Chocolate Frosted Donitas in 3.6-4.3 ounce packages. These donuts are typically sold in gas stations and quick marts in the packaged baked goods section.
Recalled Entenmann's donuts have expiration dates of May 11, 12, 15, 18, 19, 22, 25, 26, 29, 2011 and June 1, 2, 6, 2011. The products were sold in the western states of Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, California and Idaho. Both Pop 'Ems and Donitas are packaged in blue and white wrappers.
Baked goods are best eaten fresh. Day-old baked goods can be risky because they don't contain as many preservatives, reports the Department of Agriculture. Our local Meijer sells day-old baked goods, but they are discarded at a set time. Consumers cannot purchase after a certain time of night.
Fresh bakery goods and breads will mold more quickly if they are packaged in plastic wrappers. If bread or baked goods are placed in wrappers when they are warm, the steam will condense. The condensation causes mold. Paper packaging is the best wrap for fresh bread and baked goods.
