NEW DELHI -- The electromagnetic waves from masts could pose a threat to honey bees. Evidenced in research published Monday, reported the Press Trust of India news agency.

The electromagnetic waves interfere with the navigation capabilities of working bees collect nectar from flowers for the bees to maintain population. As a base near a beehive was, could the worker bees do not return, says environmentalist Sainuddin Pattazhy. This left the Queen alone with the eggs and the colony collapsed within ten days in, so did the investigation in the southern state of Kerala.

More than 100,000 people in Kerala are engaged in beekeeping. The declining bee population threatens their income. The bees are also essential for pollinating flowers and plants. According to researcher Pattazhy the bee population may disappear within ten years if the number of antennas further increases.
