On Wednesday, a three-member Hizbullah parliamentarian delegation arrived in Moscow on the invitation of Konstantin Kosachyov, the head of the Russian parliament’s lower house’s international affairs committee. Hizbullah delegation is lead by MP Mohammad Raad and includes MP Hassan Fadlallah and MP Nawwar al-Sahili.
During three-day stay in Moscow, the delegation met Russian deputy foreign minister Mikhail Bogdanov and apprised him of the resistances’ role in protecting Lebanon, and the continuous efforts by the West to hit the resistance forces and to control decision-making in the region, in an attempt to control its natural resources and abilities.
The delegation will also discuss with Russian officials the bilateral relations, issues of common interest and the developing situation in the region, mainly in Lebanon.
“We exchanged opinions on the situation in Lebanon, (and) the Arab world, discussed the attempts by the USA and the NATO bloc to destabilize the situation in the Middle East,” Raad was quoted as saying.
At home, Lebanon’s English-language newspaper The Daily Star reported on Thursday that Hezbollah is in a state of alert and it anticipates an Israeli attack on Lebanon at any moment.
Lebanese Islamic Resistance is the only armed resistance which has defeated Jewish army – in 2000 and 2006. On both occasions, Tel Aviv was compelled to withdraw its troops without having achieved any of its objectives.
Hezbollah has announced that it has the capability to hit targets deep inside Israel and to strike Israeli Navy vessels even before they reach Lebanese territorial waters.
In July 2010, Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem said the movement knew which locations to target if Tel Aviv waged another war on the country.
“We now hold a large and precise bank of Israeli targets, and Israel will have to pay the price for any step it takes,” Qassem told the Arab-language Al Nahar daily.
Hizbullah is represented by three cabinet ministers (Mohammad Fneish, Hussein Hajj Hassan and Faisal Karami) in Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s 30-member cabinet. Hizbullah is country’s largest social, political and paramilitary organization. It generates its own funds through banking, hotels, residential sector and duty-free shops at airports.
In July 2007, Professor Hassan Nafaa (Cairo University) wrote in Al-Ahram weekly: “I would like to remind the young people in this country that Israel’s strategy was foiled only by the steadfastness of the Lebanese resistance, by the ability of that resistance to bring down the May 1983 treaty. Israel’s failure in Lebanon has saved the entire region from the partitioning“.
Hizbullah is classified ‘terrorist organization’ by only three out of 193 UN members countries – the US, Canada and Israel.
