Tehran: ‘Thou shalt not get the drone back’

Tehran has rejected Barack Obama’s demand for return of the American RQ-170 UAV, aka ‘The Beast of Kandahar’ which was brought down while on a CIA reconnaissance mission inside Iranian territory (watch a video below). The US ‘demand’ was delivered by Swiss embassy in Tehran which looks after US interests in the Islamic Republic since 1980.

“We have asked for it back. We’ll see how the Iranians respond,” Obama said on Monday while standing next to his Iraqi guest, prime minister Al-Maliki.

Former US vice-president and war criminal, Dick Cheney, has blasted Barack Obama for not destroying the drone captured by Iranian forces. On Monday he told CNN audience that Obama was presented with three options but Obama rejected all of them.

Washington’s insistence on having the drone returned springs from some secret concern over the nature of what the Iranians would glean technologically from the spy drone.

Tehran has responded that it has no intention of returning the drone and that Washington should compensate Tehran for violating the country’s airspace.

Iranian President Dr. Ahmadinejad told the Venezuelan TV on December 13: “The Americans have perhaps decided to give us this spy plane. We now have control of this plane.”

Ahmadinejad added that Iranian authorities are able to make sense of the craft’s complex technical system, perhaps providing a crucial addition to Iran’s arsenal as tensions between Tehran and Washington intensify over the former’s astonishing success in civilian nuclear technology.
