The most recognizeable person on Eart, boxer Muhammad Ali, celebrated his 70th birthday on January 14, 2011 with friends and family at a dinner party in Louisville, Kentucky.
Muhammad Ali, who have been fighting Parkinson’s disease for decades, accompanied by his wife Lonnie and sister-in law, met the crowd for several minutes from a balcony overlooking the lobby of the Muhammad Ali Center. Partygoers responded with cheers and chants before the former heavyweight champ waved to the crowd and headed into a private dinner.
The festivities for his 70th birthday include a Feb. 18 bash at the MGM Grand arena in Las Vegas, where celebrities and former fighters like Foreman, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks and Roberto Duran will pay tribute to him. Manny Pacquiao may sing a song, and millions of dollars will be raised for brain research.
Ali’s opponent, George Foreman described Ali as “a prophet, a hero, a revolutionary”.
“The life he lived outside of the ring, what he had to say, the bravery he had, made him what he was: a prophet, a hero, a revolutionary – much more than a boxer,” said Foreman.
Muhammad Ali was born on January 17, 1942 as Cassius Marcellus Clay, a Christian. He changed his name when he joined the Nation of Islam in 1964. In 1975, after performing Hajj, he joined the mainstream Islam, Sunni.
