Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei, told visiting Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Islamic Republic is vehemently opposed to any initiative the US introduces in regard to the situation in Syria. He also told his visitor that Iran will defend Syria for its resistance to the Zionist entity. He said that he is in favor of reforms in Syria and that Syrian people should be allowed to determine their future through elections. He added that he was in favor of holding nuclear talks with P5+1 in Istanbul.

Erdogan, held a news conference before flying to city of Mashhad to meet Ayatullah Ali Khamenei in which he wrongly claimed that the anti-Bashar militants are not foreign agents but Syrians who are not happy with Bashar’s Ba’athist regime. He claimed that Turkey is facing with 17,000 Syrian refugees and wants Bashar to hold democratic elections so these refugees could return home.

“If Assad wins the elections, Turkey will not have any problem with him,” said Erdogan.

Erdogan, escorted by four of his cabinet ministers, National Intelligence Agency (MIT) head Hakan Fidan and Omer Celik, deputy leader of the ruling AKP – traveled to Mashhad to meet the Rahbar Ayatullah Ali Khamenei. The Rahbar controls Iran’s Armed Forces.

Ayatullah Khamenei told his guests: “The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly believes in the expansion of cooperation withTurkey, and, whenever the two countries have stood by each other on various issues, the cooperation has always benefitedIran,Turkey, and the Muslim world“.

Earlier, Erdogan held a meeting with Iranian president Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad concerning Iran’s nuclear program and economic cooperation.

“The Turkish government and nation have always clearly supported Iran’s nuclear programme and will seriously follow the same policy in the future,” Erdogan told Ahmadinejad.

The trade between the two nations hit $16 billion last year and Turkish officials believe that trade can reach $35 billion by 2015.

Erdogan also assured Ahmadinejad that NATO radar system (meant to protect Israel from Hamas, Hizbullah, Iranian and Syrian missiles and rockets) will be dismantled if found being applied against Iran.

The US, France, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Britain and Israel are arming, training and providing financial support to the armed insurgents to bring in a pro-USrael regime change in Damascus.

Turkey’s Syrian problem is part of the world superpowers’ game in the Muslim East. Turkey is Russia’s long-term adversary, a long-term ally of both US and Israel and the only Muslim member of the Judeo-Christian NATO. Syria, on the other hand, has always acted a Russian proxy in the region under the Ba’athist regime. Many Syrians still remember how Kemalist Turks occupied Syrian province of Hatay (Alexandretta) in 1939 as result of Franco-Turkish deal. The historic pre-WW I al-Sham (Greater Syria), in addition to present day Lebanon – also included areas of Turkey south of the Taurus and Anti-Taurus Mountains. The Ottoman Empire lost al-Sham to Anglo-Franco colonial powers after its defeat in WW I. The World Zionist movement played a major part in vilifying Turkey before and during the WW I (1914-18) for Sultan Abdul Hamid’s rejection of Theodor Herzl’s “great offer” of the Jewish colonization of Palestine in return for Jews paying Turkey’s European loans.
