At the end of Saturday conference of foreign ministers from nine governments (the US, Britain, France, Russia, China, Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar) plus Ban Ki-moon (UN) and Nabil El-Araby (AL) in Geneva, Kofi Annan, the UN Special ‘peace-maker’ for Syria – announced that the participants have agreed to his plan to form a ‘transitional government’ in Syria instead of a regime change in Damascus (removal of president Bashar al-Assad with a pro-Israel government). Both Washington’s Hillary Clinton and London’s William Hague insisted that “Assad must go”. However, their ‘Israeli plan’ was blocked by foreign ministers of Russia and China.
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov insisted that only Syrian have the right to decide their future and not the foreign regimes. He also dismissed the Libyan model for Syria. Syrian President al-Assad too has expressed similar views in the past.
Islamic Republic, which was invited by Ban Ki-moom and Moscow but opposed by USrael and its allies – refused to attend the meeting unless Syria is invited.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes cooperation and participation in any meeting or conference that guarantees and is aimed at constructive results to resolve the issue of Syria,” said Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Friday.
The latest agreement like Kofi Anan’s earlier ‘six point proposal’, is doomed to failure as it has been rejected by the powerful Israel Lobby in the United States. Andrew J. Tabler, a ‘Syrian expert’ at WINEP (an AIPAC’s propaganda arm), wrote in the New York Times (June 30, 2012) that the United States had made a “major compromise” in dropping the demand for Bashar Assad’s removal. The Zionist also predicted “a long, bloody summer”.

Large number of Jihadis have crossed into Syria from neighboring countries – and also from Kuwait, Tunisia, Algeria and Pakistan – to swell the ranks of the fighters. Muslim (sectarian) clerics in several Arab countries are inciting young men to go to Syria to fight. Rebel groups conduct ambushes, attack check-points, destroy public property, kill government troops. They also kidnap, rape and slaughter pro-regime civilians“.
