Yesterday, foreign ministers (Iraq, Pakistan and Zimbabwe), deputy miniters and diplomats from other 24 world and regional state as well as the UN envoy to Tehran – got together in Tehran to find out a peaceful solution to Syrian crisis funded by the enemies of the axis of resistance (Hamas, Hizbullah and Iran) foreign powers.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in his opening speech said: “We need serious and comprehensive talks between the opposition (forces) who have a position among people and the Syrian government in a background of tranquility and stability to settle the crisis in Syria“.
The UN envoy in Tehran blasted certain international actors for their lack of cooperation with the UN-Arab League Special Envoy on Syria Kofi Annan which led to his resignation. She also said: “We should all strive to gather the Syrian government and opposition groups and the UN General Assembly also emphasizes rapid progress in political transition“.
Iraq’s Ambassador to Iran Majid al-Sheikh said the Syrian people are seeking reforms “but not those reforms that are imposed from outside“.
The countries which are participating in the conference include including Russia, China, Belarus, Mauritania, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Benin, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Algeria, Iraq, Zimbabwe, Oman, Venezuela, Tajikistan, India, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Sudan, Jordan, Tunisia and Palestine as well as the UN envoy to Tehran. Lebanon is not attending the conference due to country’s “disassociation policy” in the conflict. Lebanon along with Russia and China had boycotted the western-sponsored ‘Friends of Syria‘ meetings in Tunisia and Turkey in the past.
Earlier this week, Saeed Jalili, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council – visited Damascus, Beirut and Baghdad. In Baghdad he assured Bashar al-Assad that Iran will resist USrael-sponsored regime change in Damascus. In Beirut Jalili met with Hizbullah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, President Michael Suleiman, Prime minister Najib Makati and Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday. In Baghdad Jalili met with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Speaker Osama Najifi, Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari, Former Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari and the head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim.
On Tuesday, Ali Akbar Salehi, visited Ankara and met his counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu to seek his help for the release of 48 Iranian pilgrims kidnapped by Turkey-supported armed rebels. Reportedly, during their meeting Davutoglu, criticized Iran’s top military commander Gen. Hassan Firouzabadi, who blamed Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar for running a bloody proxy war in Syria on behalf of the US and Israel.
Last week, Syria claimed that its forces have captured Turkish and Saudi military officials fighting along with the western-backed ‘Free Syrian Army (FSA)‘ in Aleppo city which Syrian army is trying to flush out the heavily-armed thugs.
On August 7, Israeli daily Jerusalem Post reported that Israel’s intelligence minister Dan Meridor put his Jewish bone into Syrian soup by saying: “I am not going to try to calculate when Assad’s end will come, but when it happens, Iran’s biggest ally will be gone“. The self-denying Jew forgot that “Iran’s biggest ally”, Hizbullah kicked Jewish army’s bottom in Summer 2006. Syria being a western ally, has been the weakest link in the Hamas-Hizbullah-Syria-Iran Resistance axis.
“What is happening in Syria is not an internal issue but a conflict between the axis of resistance on the one hand, and the regional and global enemies of this axis on the other,” said Saeed Jalili in Baghdad.
“Iran will never allow the resistance axis – of which Syria is an essential pillar – to break,” aded Jalili.
