Israel Lobby’s some of problems with Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, are – she led a Fellowship of Reconciliation delegation to Iran in 2009, thus becoming the first American Rabbi and the first female Rabbi to visit Iran in a public delegation since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. On September 25, 2008, she participated in an interfaith gathering in New York at which President Dr. Ahmadinejad of Iran spoke. On the ‘positive side’, Gottlieb had criticized Dr. Ahmadinejad for ‘denying the Holocaust’ – which he never did, except he did challenge the account of six million Jews being killed by Nazis. In fact, Canadian Rabbi Wolf Gunther Plaut (died 2012) in his book, ‘The Man Who Would Be Messiah’, has claimed that Frankist Jews committed the Holocaust.
Gottlieb is a prominent member of the Jewish Voice for Peace, which the Israeli lobby group ADL has declared one of the “top 10 anti-Israel groups”.
In response to her Jewish critics, Gottlieb wrote on her Facebook page: “I signed on to be a rabbi for Obama. There are no other clergy groups, such as Imams or Priests for Obama. Really, what Jewish person wants to vote for a (Christian Zionist) guy who believes all Jews should move to Israel so that we can all finally convert and bring the end of time and go to heaven or be burned up in the apocalypse?”.
