Former chief designer of Christian Dior, the French fashion empire, John Gilliano, has been ordered not to wear French Legion of Honor medal awarded to him in 2009 by former French President Nicolas Sarkozy (born to a Jewish mother and Catholic father), by the French Jewish President Francois Hollande (reported by JTA).
Last year, Galliano, a British citizen, was fired by the Christian Dior, under pressure from Jewish groups for making anti-Jewish rants. Later, a French court ruled he had made public insults based on “origin, religious affiliation, race or ehnicity” – Which are quite common against 8 million French Muslims.
In February 2011 – Geraldine Bloch 35, gallery curator of exhibitions at Paris’s Institute of Arab World, told police that John Galliano grabbed her by hair and called her ‘ugly disgusting whore’ with a ‘dirty Jew face’ and no dress sense during an unprovoked attack (?) in a Paris cafe. As result, John Galliano was arrested on February 24, 2011, taken to a near police station but released without charge.
Born in Gibraltar to a Spanish mother and Gibraltaran father – John Galliano was raised in South London. He lives in Paris and boasts fans including Kate Moss, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Natalie Portman and Rihanna.
