Yesterday, I read an amusing article written by some paranoid ‘Islamic World expert’, Anton Veselov, published in the Strategic Culture Foundation on September 15, 2012. Anton titled his article: “Iraq Headed for Islamic Statehood?“.

Here are some of his reasons for worrying about Iraqi people under Shia-majority government.

1. The Iraqi government has ordered the closure of night clubs, all-night restaurants, hooker houses and limitation on liquer sale during Ramadhan, the month of fasting in Baghdad.

It’s a normal practice in all 57 Muslim-majority religious and secular states during the month of Ramadhan. Even in Hindu-majority India, some major cities, too, observe such restrictions during the Muslim month of fasting.

2. “Women are banned from public places unless there heads are covered,” claims Anton. Though the women representation have been decreasing since the America’s regime change in Baghdad in 2003 – al-Maliki’s 29-member cabinet has Dr. Ibtihal Qased as Minister of Women Affairs and she doesn’t cover her head.

3. Anton calls Nouri al-Maliki’s ruling Islamic Dawa Party, a ‘terrorist organization’ which is bent on introducing Islamic Shari’ah in Iraq.

“The situation appears to be somewhat grotesque if you take into account that Iraqi premier Al Maliki both leads the Islamic Dawa Party and presides over the State of Law political bloc, and imposing the Sharia laws is a stated priority of the terrorist organization called the Islamic State of Iraq,” wrote Anton.

In 2008, Dr. Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, had claimed that Islamic Shri’ah was “invitable” in Britain.

4. Anton whines that Nouri al-Maliki not only attended NAM summit in Tehran – but met on the sidelines of the summit with a number of prominent Shia clerics, among them – Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, a ‘moderate’ Iraqi-Iranian Shia scholar.

Nouri al-Maliki attended the NAM summit as Iraq has been a member of NAM for decades. He met Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi and several other members of powerful Guardian Council of Iran.

Anton contradic himself by admitting the government’s reasons for the ‘uncivilized measures’ – but calls it “a curious statement”:

“The recent steps to close clubs and night-time restaurants in Baghdad were taken based on court rulings in response to citizens’ complaints about the disturbances caused by the joints sited in residential areas which functioned without licenses and with disregard for traditions and common values. Since the joints started to be a source of major unrest and infringements upon people’s rights, the law enforcement agencies responsible for maintaining legal order and security had to take action in line with the court rulings, and acted in a highly professional and disciplined manner. The supreme command is monitoring the situation closely and announces that the media accounts of violations, including the pertinent photos and videos, were parts of a smear campaign aimed at discrediting the security forces. If facts of abuse are confirmed, the perpetrations will be severely punished, since abusive conduct does not agree with the traditions and values of the Iraqi security which honestly serves and protects the citizens. Owners of the joints closed should request from the tourism committee the licenses which, by law, they are required to obtain to reopen”.

Anton’ for some reason, did not mention that most of these joints never existed under the rule of “evil dictator” Saddam Hussein. They’re opened to serve the US occupation forses in order to humiliate Iraqis.

Anton finds an ally in former Iraqi prime minister Iyad Allawi, whom Dr. Sam Hamod, former adviser to the US State Department, had called an ‘American puppet and traitor to Islam, Shias and Iraq‘.

The Islamophobes like Anton are affraid of 97% Iraqi Muslims (65% Shias and 32% Sunnis) to live according to their faith – but they’ve no problem with the US, EU and Israel controlled by Judeo-Christian extremists who insult Islam and Muslims each day as part of ‘freedom of speech’ – but so scared to challenge the myths of Holocaust and 9/11. How ‘moral’ are their culture – can be judged by the fact that there are more gays and lesbians in the United States than the entire population of Iraq (31 million).
