On December 27, Alistair Burt, British minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Office blasted the Zionist regime for its plan to build new illegal housing projects for Jews in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. He called such Israeli actions as ‘war crimes’ under international law. He also demanded for the reversal of Ariel Univesity (named after the Butcher of Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon) upgrade.

Alistair Burt is no antisemite. He is member of British Parliament representing for North East Bedfordshire and member of “Conservative Friends of Israel“, the lobby group he was required to leave when he was appointed cabinet minister by Israel-Firster prime minister David Cameron. However, Alistair did commit an anti-Jewish act – he visited Gaza in June 2011 to appraise effects of Israeli blockade which he called “unsustainable”, however, he voiced his opposition to anti-Israel NGOs breaking Israeli blockade (flotilla).

Alistair visited Israel last month after the 8-day Israeli airstrike over Gaza and showed his concern for the deads on both sides. This was Alistair’s third visit to Israel since his took over the cabinet post.

The Jewish Lobby in Britain, though hardly mentioned in the mainstream media, is no less powerful than Jewish Lobby in United States. To learn its grip over the governing Conservative and opposition Labour parties, one got to read Peter Oborne’s column published in UK’s daily Telegraph on December 12, 2012, here. Some 80% of Conservative MPs and Lords are member of Conservative Friends of Israel. Same could be said about the opposition Labour party whose leader Ed Milliband is 101% Jewish.

Peter Oborne slammed David Cameron government and most politicians being coward. British government supports two-state solution but ministers are affraid of Jewish Lobby to take some concrete steps to bring it about. “They condemn the settlements, but only in a half-hearted way – for example, “in a recent speech, the prime minister devoted 64 words to the settlements and almost 300 to the Iranian threat,” he wrote.

“The brutal truth is that Benjamin Netanyahu is leading his country down the path to self-destruction. If he is allowed to go ahead with the latest plans for settlement construction, all hopes of Middle East peace will vanish and die,” wrote Oborne.
