On February 3, 2013, the Jewish daily Forward reported that antisemitism in Hungary is causing an influx of Jewish immigrants to neighboring Austria. This latest hoax reminded me the statement issued by the Jewish advocacy group, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on December 20, 2012 in which its national director Abraham Foxman had praised Hungarian government of prime minister Viktor Orban for approval of an amendment making anti-Israel or anti-Jew remarks in the parliament – a crime. The amendment was in response to ADL’s letter sent to the prime minister in November 2012, criticizing Jobbik party MP Marton Jyongyosi’s calling “Jewish MPs a national threat”. The MP made the controversial remark during a debate on Israel’s 8-day attack on Gaza in November 2012. During the debate Marton was quoted saying that it was time to “evaluate how many MPs and members of the government who are of Jewish origin, who constitute threat to Hungary’s national security“.

Gabor Vona, president Jobbik party also offended Jewish lobby groups when addressing protestors in front of Israeli embassy in November 2012, he stated: “We stand in solidarity with Palestinian, Hungary is Europe’s Palestine“.

The Jewish lobby groups’ “Jewish problem” is much deeper than the nationalist Jobbik party’s support for Palestinians. There are several other anti-Jew crimes committed by Hungarians. For example, in September 2012, Budapest demanded that New York-based Jewish Claim Conference which handles payments to ever-increasing numbers of Holocaust survivors, return $8 million wrongfully charged to Hungarian taxpayers. The Jewish organization called the demand “disgraceful” and “deceitful”. Then came the arrest of former communist era interior minister Bela Biszku (allegedly with Jewish family roots) for crimes against humanity during 1956 counter-revolution mass killings. In October 2012, Jobbik supporters burned Israeli flag in front of Israeli embassy and demanded the government to cut all ties with the Zionist regime.

Marton Gyongyosi, deputy leader of Jobbik, the third largest party (48 MPs) in country’s parliament – in an interview with British Israel lobby mouthpiece, the Jewish Chronicle, published February 2, 2012, said that Israelis are treating Palestinians like Nazis treated Jews. He also claimed that the story that 400,000 Jews were killed or deported from Hungary is a big lie. Gyongyosi also told Jewish Chronicle that the conflicts in the Middle East are created by the US and Israel.

“Iran is an extremely peaceful country and never started a war, unlike Israel which has declared wars on anything and everybody around it,” said Gyongyosi.

János Fónagy, a Jewish MP and the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of National Development told daily Time of Israel (January 27, 2013): “Hungarian society is no better or worse than the rest of Europe,” while pointing out that parties with ideologies akin to Jobbik’s exist in the United Kingdom, Russia, and elsewhere on the continent. Parallels are often drawn between Jobbik, Greece’s Golden Dawn, and the UK’s British National Party.

ADL’s national director, Abraham Foxman has assured his paranoid sheep that Hungary’s official policy is “solidly against Iran and supportive of Israel“. In other words, whining is a necessary part of being a Zionist Jew!
