John Gilliano, former chief designer of French fasion-empir Christian Dior is once again subject of Jewish love and hate. Gilliano was fired by Christian Dior in February 2011, as result of his so-called “antisemitic” outburst. Since then, it’s reported that Gilliano has attended Jewish school to study Talmud and visited Zionists’ holy Auschwitz Museum to learn about the holocaust. He even spent some time with Abraham Foxman, the second highest-paid Israeli lobbyist in the United States.
Only last month, Oscar de la Renta offered Galliano a chance to make amends, inviting him to work in his Midtown studio. The studio is owned by Santo Domingo-born Oscar de la Renta, a fasion designer, became famous for designing Jacqueline Kennedy’s dress in 1960. In 1989, Oscar married to Jewish millionaire Annette Engelhart.
On February 13, 2013 – the Ziocon media outlet, the New York Post claimed that John Gilliano sported an outfit for the Oscar de la Renta’s Fashion Week show in New York – which made fun of Hasidic Orthodox Jews. The controversial outfit consisted of long jacket, hat and curly “peyos” or sidelocks.
The NYP quoted Williamsburg community leader Isaac Abraham, saying: “He’s trying to embarrass people in the Jewish community and make money on clothes while dressed like people he has insulted. It looks like the hairstyle he added was done purposely to insult.”
The NYP also quoted Rep. Dov Hikind, saying: “Who is he mocking? The way the socks look, the jacket, the peyos . My question is, who’s he laughing at?”.
I think, considering the past Jewish reaction to criticism of the acute hatred of Hasidic Jews toward Goym – Gilliano is guilty of “antisemitism”. For example, on July 28, 2010, British journalist Christina Patterson wrote a column in UK daily The Independent, in which she described how she and other non-Jewish youth were discriminated by the Hasidic Jews. That column earned her a place among the ‘Top 10 Antisemitic Slurs’ of 2010 compiled by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre.
Ironically, Gilliano, is being defended by no other than Abraham Foxman, who lead the anti-Gilliano campaign in 2011 which resulted in sacking of Gilliano by Christian Dior and shunned by the rest of the international fashion industry. On February 13, 2013, the head of ADL, Abraham Foxman issued a statement calling the NYP story as “ridiculous” and “absurd”.
“There is no truth to their accusation that John Galliano was dressed in Hasidic garb, and anyone familiar with the dress of traditional Orthodox Jews should not mistake what Galliano is wearing in the photograph as “Hasidic garb.” Hasidim do not wear fedora hats, pinstripe pants, blue jackets or an ascot tie,” claimed Gilliano’s former executioner.
Nathalie Atkinson at the Canadian anti-Muslim daily, The National Post (February 13), sort of agreed with the NYP.
I bet you will never hear the Jewish media calling Israel an “antisemitic state” even though there women are not allowed to sit next to male Jews in buses and trains serving the Orthodox Jewish areas in Jerusalem. Women hostess are not allowed on El Al flights between Israel and United States carrying rabbis. In New York, women are neither allowed to drive or walk on the same side of the street as men – right in New Square, an Orthodox Jewish enclave north of Time Square.
