British opposition Labour Party has suspended its Muslim peer, Pakistani-born Lord Nazir Ahmed on the charges that he named Jewish group for conspiring behind the imprisonment he received in 2007 over a fatal motorway crash.

Lord Nazir Ahmed, in a recent interview with a Pakistan TV channel claimed that his sentence resulted from pressure placed on the court by powerful Jewish groups, “who owns newspapers and TV channels”. Britain’s first male Muslim peer for life, also claimed that the judge who jailed him for 12 weeks was appointed to the High court after helping a “Jewish colleague” of former Islamophobe prime minister Tony Blair during “an important case”.

British Jewish daily The Times claimed on March 14, 2013 that Lord Ahmed like British novelist Agatha Christie (died 1976), propagates antisemitism.

The Labour Party is led by Jewish Ed Milliband. Last week, speaking at a Board of British Deputies event, Ed said: “I’m a Zionist and oppose boycotts of Israel“.

“I take antisemitism very seriously. Any kind of delegitimisation of Israel is something we should call out for what it is and not tolerate it. I think the boycotts of Israel are totally wrong. We should have no tolerance for boycotts. I would say that to any trade union leaders,” said Ed.

Ed Milliband said that he considered himself a Zionist but was critical of some Israeli government policies. Asked about Labour’s support for the Palestinian bid for statehood at the United Nations, Miliband said he wanted to “encourage moderate” (anti-Hamas-Islamic Jihad) Palestinians and work in an “even-handed” way.

Lord Nazir Ahmed’s father who immigrated to UK, worked in the steel industry. Lord Ahmed’s brother operates a taxicab. Nazir Ahmed became Baron of Rotherham at the age of 40.
