On May 21, Israel’s Jewish advocacy group, Anti-Defamation League (ADL), in a statement slammed Detroit City Council members and Christian religious leaders for welcoming and honoring Nation of Islam (NOI) leader Louis Farrakhan during his 2-day visit to city where the Black Muslim movement started in the 1930s.

While in Detroit, Minister Farrakhan was invited by Rev. Horace Sheffield III, leader of the New Destiny Baptist Church on May 16. Farrakhan was also invited by Rev. Wendell Anthony, President of Detroit branch of NAACP, a Black Civil Rights group dominated by Jews, to address the Fellowship Chapel on May 17, 2013. The event was attended by Rep. John Conyers, Detroit Councilmen Charles Pugh, the president of the city council, Spivey, Joann Watson, Kwame Kentatta, Brenda Jones, James Tate, Ken Cockerel, Saunteel Jenkins, Gary Brown and several other prominent city leaders.

“It’s deeply disappointing that so many Detroit leaders are apparently so willing to turn a blind eye to Farrakhan’s antisemitism. Where are voices in our community who are willing to stand up and say no to racism and antisemitism?,” said Heidi Budaj, ADL Detroit regional director.

On May 17, Farrakhan held a meeting with Detroit Mayor Dave Bing.

Farrakhan told his Christian audience at the church: “I know you love Jesus, but I don’t know if you know him as much as you love him. Singing about Jesus is good thing. Praising Jesus is better, but following Jesus is best of all.”

Jesus was the last hope for the Israelites, but they rejected him. They’re now in control of the media and airwavws, gaining exccess to the “sacred territory”, which is the minds of people. “They have mastered the civilization now, but they’he mastered it in evil. Satan has devoured much of humanity,” said Farrakhan.

“You don’t follow politicians, you guide politicians. The preachers are key to the salvation of people or you’re the key to their damnation and if you don’t preach the Gospel, then you’re headed to death yourself for being a betrayer of Christ,” he added. Read more of it here.

Farrakhan delivered a passionate speech at Detroit City Council on May 17 in which he described the history and the vision of Islam for a tolerant and peaceful world. He urged Muslims to buy property and invest in Detroit city which once was known as the “Motor City”, and is in decay now.

“The nation of Islam is disciplined. We gotta come home and help this city. We gotta come home. We can help the police force [audience agrees] cause once these young black men are trained in the building arts and science, they become partners, not gangbangers where you’re afraid to walk your streets. I got in the elevator today with my beautiful sister, and all the brothers got in there with here but she made this remark: “I haven’t felt this safe in a long time.” But the whole city can be like that. The elderly will be able to come out of their houses and walk their streets. The young will be able to go to school and get a good education. Gang warfare can stop if we put our hands to work. That’s a vision. It can be done,” said Farrakhan. His entire speech can be read here. Also watch a video below.
