Wednesday, November 4, 2009

In September 2005 there was an 8-meter wide crack in the earth along a 60 kilometer long stretch of the East African Great Rift Valley in Afar in Ethiopia. Researchers are now that the cut in the continental crust Ethiopia and Eritrea from the rest of Africa is isolated. Eventually there will arise a new sea.

In 2005, a research team from the United Kingdom, the United States and Ethiopia, based on radar data from ESA's Envisat Earth observation satellite to determine that there are only three weeks time an 8 meter wide crack had formed along the 60 kilometer long section of the rift.
