CCTV security systems UK - Samsung Techwin's latest: a killing robot

The SGR-1 Security Guard Robot from Samsung Techwin uses state of the art surveillance technology – and an optional ‘lethal weapon’ – to make it a real-life Robocop.

Developed initially for use in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the SGR-1 integrates a number of surveillance technologies, including low light-high resolution and thermal cameras, alongside a Laser Range Finder and ‘suppression’ systems – offering the use of an ‘acoustic device’, which emits a tone powerful enough to make intruders nauseous and drop to the ground; and machine guns equipped with real or rubber bullets.

“Unexpected intrusions often call for immediate action,” the product’s sales literature says.

“The remote controlled system is unparalleled for quick response and all systems are designed for superior protection solutions. The lethal or non-lethal weapon is installed for various missions.

“The Universal Gun Mount enables to install different types of machine gun at the request of the customer, with a stabilisation device for accurate shooting.

“The SGR-1 allows for unprecedented target recognition at all hours to provide the ultimate protection from intrusion. This innovative technology consists of multiple integrated systems to make security more affordable and effective than ever.”
