Prospects for detecting Earth-like planets

Although no Earth-like planets have been discovered yet, the prospects seem good for discovery in the next few years. NASA's Kepler mission is a space-mission supposed to be optimised for the discovery of Earth-like planets and is currently scheduled for launch in 2006. Recent advances in optical interferometry (for example at the Keck Telescope in Hawaii) are also likely to help.
