Risks by daily aspirin use

LONDON - Healthy people who take aspirin daily to reduce risk of heart attacks, may cause themselves more harm than it does them well. That says a new study by British scientists.

Previously, daily use of a small dose of aspirin is recommended to reduce risk of blood clots. That would help prevent heart attacks and strokes.

But the new study shows an increased risk of bleeding, which in healthy patients can be weighed heavier than the reduced risk of heart disease, says the director of the British Heart Foundation.

Patients who have a heart attack or stroke may still benefit from a daily dose of aspirin to prevent a recurrence.
