Suspicious website cites NASA in hyping announcement of 'historic discovery
'A curious website purported to be affiliated with NASA went live this week just as the government shutdown whittled the space agency down to just a skeleton crew.
The website, rememberthe13th.com, links to the NASA Curiosity pages on Twitter, Facebook, and Google +.
"The biggest discovery that will shake the earth, It will never be the same again," says the site. "NASA has made a historic discovery that will shake the entire planet."
Initially, the site was hyping up an announcement set for Nov. 13, 2013. As the site went viral and the Internet began scratching its collective heads over it, the site moved up this special announcement to Oct. 6.
But it's kind of hard to get word from NASA considering that anyone who could -- officially -- answer any questions about it has turned off their government-issued machines and gone home.
Simple 'net sleuthing shows that the site was built on Oct. 1, the day before the shutdown, and searching the backdoor registration of the domain name came from namecheap.com
