Just thought I would kick this off with a preview of the May 5th/May 6th (depending on your timezone) 2012 Super Moon.

Here are a couple of pictures of the large moon this evening (May 3rd) at around 7:45pm EST.

Unfortunately, a thunderstorm rolled through before it got dark, so I only have footage from the evening just before the sun set.

Stay tuned for more as the moon becomes full and finally reaches it's perigee (closest point) to the Earth.

I also have video footage from this same viewing, which will be posted shortly.

And now for the May 4th 2012 installment of The Supermoon. Although not yet at it's perigee, and not quite full, it was a beautiful sight again. Despite the cloud-cover, I was able to get some pretty good shots of the moon. The videos taken will be pretty amazing too with the clouds rolling over the moon.

The above picture shows the glow of the light from the moon onto the surrounding clouds.

The below picture shows a yellowish hue to the moon, even though the quality of the image is not that great.

The next set of pictures are random shots as the clouds rolled past, so some are brighter than others.

Because of the clouds, it was hit-or-miss tonight, but I was able to get some worthwhile images and film footage.

Enjoy! I'll be back with more early Sunday morning.

3 May 2012 - Perigee "Super Moon" on May 5-6, 2012* This May's full Moon is a "super Moon," as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons of 2012.

This is right from NASA's site about the supermoon.

First off, a big thanks goes to Rumas for getting my videos edited and uploaded for me. Thanks Rumas!

And now, to get down to it.

We've finally reached the perigee for the Super Moon tonight. Despite the cloud-cover, I did manage to get some really nice shots of the large luxurious moon.

Some of these were taken not long after the moon rose tonight. As soon as it came out of the clouds on the horizon, I was there to take some absolutely, in my opinion, awesome snapshots as well as video. You can see the color, the yellow and orange hues as it is rising.

So, without further ado.............

More pictures in the next post! It was so beautiful tonight, I couldn't stop capturing images. I took a picture every chance I got between filming. :)

Here are the rest of the pictures from tonight. (I had far too many, so I chose the best ones, in my opinion.)

Most of these are cloudy, and some are just wonderful looking with the light reflecting off the clouds.

So there you have it, aside from the video that is to come from tonight's supermoon (May 5th into May 6th EST).

I hope you all enjoy the pictures, and there's still time, as of now, to see the moon out there. If you get a chance to see it tonight, take a look, it's a beauty! :)
