Summer Travels

I guess the title isn't entirely accurate, but I think everyone will get the idea. So my daughter and I took my grandkids traveling this year. At the end of May, we took a day trip down to Great Sand Dunes National Park. Medano Creek was running high and warm. The kids, fresh from passing their latest round of swimming lessons, literally dived right in. The current was strong enough and deep enough to float them downstream. Last year, that would have terrified them. This year the screams were delight, not fright. In June, we packed up again. This time it was Omaha and the Henry Doorly Zoo. I highly recommend that zoo, as well as Embassy Suites in La Vista. We had a two room premium suite, which accommodated the six of us nicely. Plus a vending machine full of free snacks, free cooked to order breakfast every morning, and happy hour every evening. Much easier than rounding up four kids to go to a restaurant. October took us to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta. Embassy Suites provided premium accommodations again. The balloons were outstanding. We even flew my son-in-law down for two days and toured the location shot areas from Breaking Bad. One of his bucket list items was having his picture taken in front of Walter White's house. Mission accomplished. Next year, the plan is to visit Lego Land Resort in California. If I'm lucky, I won't be recovering from surgery for that trip. This year I was four days post-game from having my right shoulder repaired after shredding the tendon. What can I say? The trip had been planned for months, and was part of my oldest granddaughter's birthday present. I wasn't always comfortable, but I had fun.
