The Palm Room

This stunning palace is an architectural masterpiece, providing the backdrop for the 1933 film, flying Down to Rio starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The hotel has also put up John Wayne and Ava Gardner. Today, it is still a celeb hot spot: Brazil's world -famous supermodel Gisele Bundchen spent time here during last year's Carnival in Rio, and the Cruise family has stayed in the presidential suite with ocean views.
