Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a psycho therapeutic alternative medicine tool based on a theory that negative emotions are caused by disturbances in the body's energy field and that tapping on the meridians while thinking of a negative emotion alters the body's energy field, restoring it to "balance." There are two studies which appear to show positive outcomes from use of the techniques, but another study has suggested that it is indistinguishable from the placebo effect. Critics have described the theory behind EFT as pseudo scientific and have suggested that any utility stems from its more traditional cognitive components, such as distraction from negative thoughts, rather than from manipulation of supposed "energy meridians".

If anyone has had acupuncture or Shiatsu one can see the difference right away. It seems to me that our modern life with all its stresses and toxic substances has created a great need for the so called 'pseudo sciences' which may even draw many to question our left brained approach to modern medicine, and its pharmaceutical culture or 'cutl'ture as Dr. Len Horowitz has pointed out.

If it was only removing negative thoughts then one wouldnt need to tap the meridian points, and what this has become is a tool that many are adapting to the challenges of modern day living and resultant stresses. When people are devoting their lives to it, I am sure it is because it works for them and for others as the many testimonies by people all over the world have shared.

Perhaps this is calling for people to view themselves out of the old psychological paradigm and toward ...emotional freedom

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom techniques during typical EFT the person will focus on a specific issue while tapping on the end points of the body's energy meridians and it may also be used as a simple form of self administered therapy.
