Heaven's Gate Cult

The documentary about the cult known as Heaven's Gate was on television this morning and I have to say it still amazes me how some people can get so involved in this sort of thing to the point of mass suicide.

What was the name of the documentary? I'd like to see this.

Once I watch it, I'll be more apt to put my opinion as to why people join these cults.

What exactly is the Heaven's Gate cult? I don't think I've heard of them. Are they the ones that drank the poisoned Kool-Aid? What did they believe? Why did they commit suicide?

Ok, so here's what i've gathered on Heaven's Gate Cult.

First off, have you seen the leader of that cult? Oh my friggin god is he creepy looking, with those big eyes just agaze. CREEPY!

Ok, so they believed the end of days was coming and that aliens would take their souls (a soul collector or something), and they HAD to die at a certain time while the ship was passing by, or else they would not ascend.

Pretty sure that's how it went.

I just saw the episode of Ancient Aliens that dealt with "Aliens and Deadly Cults". Pretty interesting. Ok, well i didnt' JUST see it, it was over a month ago, so if i remembered anything wrong, i'm sure SOMEONE will correct me.

Either way, the cult was based on Aliens taking them away. Scary-ass shit!

Now if they all killed themselves under their own free will, who are we to question how they lived their lives? However their cult leader force them to do this by brainwashing or otherwise, then of course the Heaven's Gate cult was wrong.

If we question how these people chose to live their lives, then we are no different than the illuminati. All forms of freedom should be celebrated that includes the freedom to take one's life.

Kinda makes you wonder then, did anyone NOT drink the kool-aid? Did anyone leave? Before or after the others drank?

Just some questions. I think it's been said that everyone that was there died, but how do we know that for sure?

You DO have a point Denise, about the choice thing. IF they were all there voluntarily, and IF they all chose to die voluntarily, and NO ONE was brainwashed in any way, then fine, it's their choice. BUT, if they were all under this guy's hypnotic spell, like as in most cults, hence why they are called CULTS, then it was wrong and it is an atrocity. If it was of their own free will, then they should have that choice as humans to live or die as they please.

I think the biggest problem we as people have with people dying is a selfish one. WE want them to still be here with us, and that is selfish. When you put your feelings and your EGO aside, it is easier to accept loss. I'm not saying I can or anything, I hate it when people are killed or when they kill themselves, it's sad. BUT, I know it's my ego that causes those feelings and thoughts. So, I'm one step up on it at least.

There is actually a conspiracy on this Heaven's Gate cult, I heard that the SWAT teams moved in and actually shot everybody and that they didn't actually drink the Kool-Aid. They covered it up by saying they did drink it. These guys were probably on to something and they wanted him dead before the public found out.

I hadn't heard that one, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that it's true. Cuz, come on, there HAD to be at least 1 guy (or girl) that DIDN'T drink the Kool-Aid.

I think you might be mixing this up with another cult. I'm pretty sure I heard that before but not associated with the Heaven's Gate cult. I have to look it up I could be wrong.

Well, either way, I wouldnt' be surprised if it DID happen. I haven't heard of ANYTHING like this happening, but I'm sure it DOES happen.

There's gotta be at least 1 person that was there that DIDN'T drink the kool-aid.
