Nobody Launched a Missile Last Night

(CBS) A mysterious missile launch off the southern California coast was caught by CBS affiliate KCBS's cameras Monday night, and officials are staying tight-lipped over the nature of the projectile.

CBS station KFMB put in calls to the Navy and Air Force Monday night about the striking launch off the coast of Los Angeles, which was easily visible from the coast, but the military has said nothing about the launch.

Ellsworth (former ambassador to NATO) said such tests were carried out in the Atlantic to demonstrate America's power to the Soviets, when there was a Soviet Union, but he doesn't believe an ICBM has previously been tested by the U.S. over the Pacific.

"It's spectacular"

West Coast mystery missile may be North Korean

Helium
Nov 10, 2010*

“A shot over the bow,” is what some in America’s intelligence community are whispering under the stunned media’s demands for answers.

And if the United State’s Navy is telling the truth, heads will roll among some of the Pentagon’s brass for permitting a foreign enemy vessel to breach U.S. sovereign territory and send a chilling message to the American government.

Make no mistake. The missile, launched approximately 35 miles from the city of Los Angeles and north of Catalina island about 5 PM PDT, came from an offshore submarine.

Watch video report here:

Perhaps the navy had an accidental missile launch? Well maybe. If so, they will not be able to continue to cover up the mishap for very long.

But another more frightening scenario is being discussed by insiders at Homeland Security and the super-secret National Security Agency: North Korea has rattled its saber again—this time with a very, very large missile launched from a Sang-O class sub modified to carry a missile or towing a missile launching sea sled. A sea sled missile launch platform was first perfected by Nazi Germany in WWII and planned for use in the closing months of the war against New York and Washington, D.C.

Expert Claims “Missile” Was Optical Illusion

David Gardner

Foreign aggressors and private ballistics firms were also ruled out. It lead to speculation among aerospace experts on the internet that the trail could have been the result of an optical illusion.

[...]

John Pike, a defence and aerospace expert who runs website GlobalSecurity.org, was convinced the phenomenon was a simple trick of the eye.

He said: ‘This thing is so obviously an airplane contrail… There’s a reason that they’re called rockets.’

He said the object was moving too slow to be a missile, and footage showed light of varying intensity coming from the object, which suggested reflected light from the sun rather than light generated from an engine.

It looked like a missile launch, he said, because of an optical illusion that made the contrail appear as though it started on the ground and zoomed straight up.

In reality, he said, the contrail began on the horizon and ran parallel to the ground.

‘It was an unusually clear day, so what looked like a missile launch 35 miles off the coast of Los Angeles was actually the contrail of a jet that stretched 300 miles into the distance.’

Pentagon: Plane Responsible For “Missile” Footage

Press TV
Nov 11, 2010

US military officials have closed investigations over a mysterious vapor trail that was filmed off the coast of southern California, saying it was caused by a plane.

On Monday evening, a local CBS television affiliate aired footage of a thick contrail — short for “condensation trail” — that streaked across the sky west of Los Angeles, raising fears across the US about a possible missile fire.

On Tuesday, the US Defense Department initially announced that it had no idea what created the vapor trail, but stressed that they have “absolutely no evidence that a missile was fired.”

They also offered assurances that whatever happened there posed no threat to America.

Pentagon’s tight-lipped explanation left a vacuum for conspiracy theories to rush in.

Hundreds of US media outlets offered a variety of speculations over the sky plume, among them a theory that Pentagon was test-firing secret advanced weapons to boost its military dominance.

Almost 48 hours after the media hype over the “mystery missile”, Defense officials finally began to leak the belief that the contrail was produced by an airplane.

On Wednesday, Pentagon spokesman Colonel David Lapan officially announced that authorities were now certain it was a jet contrail from a commercial aircraft seen at an unusual angle in unusual light.

“There’s no evidence to suggest that it was other than an aircraft,” he stressed.

He also denied that US military planes were involved in the incident, before proclaiming “this case is closed.”

The lack of additional explanation has led many experts to believe that the official military cover story will be subject to further adjustments in the near future.*

Nov 11, 2010

It was a bizarre, glowing red-hot streak in the sky — right at sunset Wednesday — moving briskly behind the Manhattan skyline.

CBS 2 reached out to a top astronomer who looked at the video. He said it looks beautiful, but that is was like nothing more than what’s known as a “contrail” — condensation from a commercial or military jet.

General Mcinerney: “I am absolutely certain that is not an aircraft”

Mark Matheny
Sick Semper Tyrannis
November 15, 2010

More information on the recent sighting off the coast of California has once again confirmed the unidentified flying object as a missile.

Sean Hannity of FOX News interviewed a panel of three guests on November 11, 2010 in regards to what their conclusions were pertaining to the mystery sighting last monday off*of California’s coast.

Sean Hannity began the interview by saying that the official statement by the Pentagon is that the object was a plane, and that he was willing to entertain that assertion.

However, Retired Airforce*Lt. General Tom Mcinerney, with no reservations stated that this object was clearly a missile saying:

“Well first of all, I do not agree with the assertion Sean. And your question is, we should get a definitive answer. You’re absolutely correct. Look, this is not an airplane because of the plume, and the way you see that plume. Airplanes do not con at sea level or 5000 ft like that. I spent 35 yrs flying fighters, and I never saw an airplane con like that. That is a missile – it’s launched from a submarine, and you can see it go through a correction course, and then it gives a very smooth trajectory meaning that the guidance system has now kicked in, it’s going at about a 45 degrees away from you that’s why you’re not seeing a lot of vertical*velocity.”*

When Sean interrupted Lt.*Mcinerney, asking*” are you 100% certain? Mcinerney answered with 100% conviction:

“Sean… I’ve watched that film*10 times, I’ve watched 15 other Trident films, SM 3.. Standard missile threes, and T*Lam launches…. I am absolutely certain that that is not an aircraft.”

This*statement by Lt. General Mcinerney*appears to agree with the report by Wayne Madsen*where he reports that missile experts say the plume was definitely from a missile, (most likely a JL-2 ICBM) and that it was*probably launched from a Chinese Jin class submarine.
