BRITAIN has released an archive detailing government briefings on unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

The 25 files released by The National Archives include "a lengthy briefing on UFO policy to then Prime Minister Tony Blair's office'' along with a job description for the post of UFO desk officer, described as the "weirdest job in Whitehall''.

According to a former employee of the UFO desk, which closed in 2009, the perception that it consisted of "top secret teams of specialist scientists scurrying around the country in a real life version of the X-Files'' was "total fiction''.

Instead, daily duties included providing briefings on the ministry of defence's position on UFOs, undertaking UFO investigations, handling freedom of information requests and managing UFOlogists (UFO "experts'').

The stranger investigations included one into a UFO sighting by a police officer at Chelsea football club and another into a visit by three "men in black'' to a person who reported a UFO encounter in Lincolnshire, east England.

According to the files, a hotel owner in Wales once complained to her MP after a UFO landed in a field "from which two tall silver-suited 'faceless humanoids' emerged and began "making measurements'''.

Britain has released its UFO government briefings.

Also included in the files are details of a 1995 briefing by one of the defence ministry's UFO intelligence officers which speculated on why aliens would visit Earth.

Despite having no hard evidence for alien craft, the officer explained that any visit would most likely be motivated by military reconnaissance, scientific development or tourism.

In a briefing prepared in 1979, a UFO intelligence officer noted that no radio tracking systems had ever picked up alien transmissions.

The release of the documents came after a request by David Clarke, author of the book The UFO files.

"These records allow us to look behind the scenes of what must have been one of the strangest jobs in Whitehall (shorthand for Britain's civil service),'' said Clarke.

"We now have a fascinating insight into some of the extraordinary reports and briefings which passed over the UFO Desk on a daily basis and how its officers used logic and science in their attempts to explain 'the unexplained','' he said.

Anything Whitehall or the MOD put out is absolute crap. The last line there is more at the point. Logic and science indeed.

Seriously. Tourism? ET tourism, eh? Really? I hope with all my heart and soul that ET isn't as lame as humans. So like those cigar-shaped UFOs are Winnebagos?

Do we have to do this?

HAHAHAHAHA, for some reason your reply struck me as funny. Forgive me I do not mean to offend you. Cigar shaped Winnebagos, lol. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what our scientists logically deduce after viewing the newly released archives.

That's the picture that came to mind when I read that article. I was like "omfg wut u cannot be srs."

"We now have a fascinating insight into some of the extraordinary reports and briefings which passed over the UFO Desk on a daily basis and how its officers used logic and science in their attempts to explain 'the unexplained','' he said.

We now have fascinating insight into what you dolts want us to believe. Go ahead and tell us how you're so smart. We might even believe you because we don't have two brain cells to cause any friction in our stagnant skulls! "...Officers used logic and science in their attempts..." to demonstrate themselves to be as boring and uncreative as any bureaucrats the world over. They think we're going to be blinded by their "logic" and "science". Which bit of there report demonstrates either to have been used?

A few years ago the MOD released a 400 page report on the "UFO phenomenon" and basically called it all hogwash and swamp gas. Now they want us to believe that they've had all these briefings, reports, analyses, and task forces investigating this with all their heart and soul. Honestly, they can't concern themselves with anything that isn't money- or power-motivated. Be sure you read this the same way. They are trying to do your thinking, observation, and conclusion-making for you.

It's easy to tell when a news article is written with a conclusion of what the author would like you to believe. Whenever a statement in a news article does not allow for the reader to draw their own conclusions it becomes obvious that article should not be trusted. Unfortunately people crave this kind of closure from the news, mainly because they are too lazy and do not want to think for themselves. What would the world it be like if the public were given the opportunity to view fair and balanced information with point of views that are not shifted?
