Get ready for new big chill as forecasters predict back-to-back ‘white-out’ winters

Britain is set for another winter of Arctic conditions with blizzards and temperatures as low as -20C, forecasters have warned.

The prediction could mean back-to-back ‘white-out’ winters after last year’s proved to be the coldest for 31 years.

The worrying forecast came as bad weather struck the British Isles at the weekend, with flash flooding in parts of London and the South-East.

It was made by Positive Weather Solutions which claims to have accurately predicted last summer’s washout and the previous big freeze.

The group has predicted a bleak December with freezing fog for valley areas. January and February 2011 will bring repeated snowfalls and low temperatures near last winter’s low of -22.3C in Altnaharra, Scotland.

Jonathan Powell, PWS senior forecaster, said: ‘It is very unusual to have two very harsh winters back-to-back so most people would have expected a milder winter this year.
