Chilly temperatures across the Northeast will usher in a winter storm expected to hit New England at the end of the week, forecasts said on Wednesday.
A cold air blast will "set the stage for a substantial snow event on Thursday night into Friday," according to AccuWeather.com meteorologists.
The storm is expected to blanket the region with a couple of inches of snow from Baltimore through Boston, said Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.com.
"If you have to commute to work or travel long distance on Friday, expect delays to spread northeastward from the mid-Atlantic to southern and eastern New England," Sosnowski wrote on AccuWeather.com's web site.
"The delays will range from snow-clogged and slippery roads to de-icing issues and flight cancellations at airports," he said.
The end-of-week storm system has the potential to build into a more hefty snowfall, according to Weather Channel meteorologists writing online.
Current accumulation estimates hover between three and six inches in Philadelphia and New York City and up to eight inches in Boston, according to Weather Channel meteorologist Jonathan Erdman.
The chilly winter was not easing any time soon.

In the Midwest on Wednesday, one to three inches of snow were expected in parts of South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas, with deeper accumulations in Nebraska.
Parts of Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle could see snow, sleet and snow later in the day, forecasters said, while high wind gusts of as much as 40 mph were sweeping across New Mexico.
