Julian Assange to Appear on "60 Minutes" Sunday
Steve Kroft Interviews the Controversial Founder of WikiLeaks
(CBS) Julian Assange, the controversial founder of WikiLeaks, has given a lengthy interview to Steve Kroft for a segment to be broadcast on "60 Minutes" this Sunday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Kroft spent two days with Assange on the grounds of the private residence in England where he is under house arrest as he fights attempts to extradite him to Sweden to answer allegations of sexual assault.
Assange raised a huge furor by publicizing confidential and secret information on his WikiLeaks Web site allegedly given to him by a U.S. soldier.
In the interview, he discusses the United States' attempts to indict him on criminal charges and the torrent of criticism directed at him. He also talks about his itinerant childhood in Australia and his introduction to the world of computers at the age of 13.

WIKILEAKS is putting its money where its mouth is and opening itself up to a new level of public scrutiny by taking questions direct from the public about the famously secretive and mysterious organisation.
Members of the public have been invited to question WikiLeaks organisers themselves, with the website announcing it will begin holding "regular direct meetings with the public and the press."
The first one takes the form of a video conference on Tuesday, February 1, at 10.30pm (AEDT).
On its website, WikiLeaks said it would take questions via Twitter and email "and will answer as many as possible in the time available".
In a separate development, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will speak about his tussles with US authorities and the controversy surrounding the actions of his website in an interview with America's 60 Minutes.
Mr Assange will appear in an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft to be aired on Sunday, Mr Assange also discusses his itinerant childhood in Australia and his introduction to computers at the age of 13, the show's network CBS reported on its website.
Mr Assange is currently under house arrest at a private residence in England as he fights attempts to extradite him to Sweden over allegations of sexual assault, which he denies. Kroft spent two days with Mr Assange at the residence interviewing him about his life, WikiLeaks and the criminal charges.
Mr Assange has been slammed by lawmakers in the US and other countries for releasing thousands of leaked documents - including secret diplomatic cables and papers on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Investigators have tried - and reportedly thus far failed - to establish a link between Mr Assange and US Army soldier Bradley Manning, a disillusioned private now under arrest, who is accused of illegally downloading tens of thousands of government documents and passing them to an authorised person. That person has been widely reported to be Mr Assange.
