8 tourists killed in Egypt bus accident

CAIRO – A tour bus lost control and flipped over several times on a winding mountain road near an Egyptian Red Sea resort, killing eight tourists early on Saturday, said officials.

The driver lost control of the bus because he was driving to fast on the highway near Hurgadha and the vehicle rolled over, an official said Saturday, on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Another 40 people were injured

Egypt's official news agency confirmed that eight died in the crash.

Three Russians and a Ukrainian woman were among the dead and the identities of the others were still unknown.

The seriously injured were airlifted to hospitals in Cairo around 315 miles (500 kilometers) away.

Road accidents are common in Egypt because of bad roads and poor enforcement of traffic rules. An estimated 8,000 people die in car accidents annually.
