PANORAMA CITY -- Police are investigating a 57-year-old man for suspected cruelty to animals after discovering nearly 100 cats in his motor home.
Authorities said many of the cats were suffering from upper respiratory ailments, had mouth and facial abscesses and had ear deformities due to untreated ear mites.
The remains of several cats and kittens were also discovered wrapped in towels and plastic inside a freezer.
Police responded after previous complaints from animal rescue personnel, veterinarians and neighbors who told them that the man had refused medical care for the animals and was maintaining numerous sick cats inside his small residence.
The LAPD is forwarding the cases to the Los Angeles city attorney's office to determine what legal action, if any, may be taken against him, police said.
