A 20-year-old Toronto woman has been charged with killing her mother.
Police were called to an apartment at 4301 Kingston Rd. on Friday, where they found the body of Zaniffa Balkaran, 59, on the floor of her apartment.
Annesair Balkaran was charged with first-degree murder and appeared in court at Old City Hall on Saturday.
On Sunday police confirmed to CBC News that the two were mother and daughter.
Annesair Balkaran "does happen to be the daughter of the deceased," said Cont. Wendy Drummond.
A post-morten has been conducted "however the cause of death is still pending," said Drummond.
The slaying marks the third homicide in Toronto in 2011.
