A Winnipeg daycare worker has been arrested on child-pornography charges after a covert sting conducted by child-exploitation investigators in Toronto.

Winnipeg police announced the arrest of Joel Daniel Stubson, 28, on Monday after a Saturday morning raid on a St. Vital apartment.

Police said a preliminary search of computer equipment seized in the raid uncovered thousands of images believed to be child pornography.

The executive director of Winnipeg's St. Germain daycare, Carol Jones, confirmed to CBC News that Stubson was an employee there until Monday.

Parents and guardians of children who attend the St. Vital-area daycare have been notified of the police investigation and Stubson's suspected involvement, Jones said.

Jones refused all other comment.

Winnipeg police said Stubson came to the attention of Toronto officers between Jan. 9 and 10. Police said undercover officers made contact with a man using a file-sharing program.

"It was during this interaction that the suspect made numerous videos and images of child abuse imagery available to the undercover officer," Police said.

A number of the images appeared to be of boys between the ages of 3 and 12, said Const. Jason Michalyshen.

The suspect was identified as Stubson in a Monday press release from the Winnipeg Police Service.

Stubson is facing a number of charges including possessing, accessing and distributing child pornography.

He was released after his arrest on a promise to appear in court on a later date.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
