CBC News has learned three people have been arrested in connection with the 2007 slaying of an Indo-Canadian woman who was found dead in the basement of her Surrey, B.C., home.
Harpal Sandhu, a relative of Amanpreet Kaur Bahia, told CBC News two men and one woman have been arrested in connection with Bahia's death.
Sandhu said a homicide detective contacted the family with the news on Friday.
"We have been waiting for four years," Sandhu said. "He meet us in the restaurant … he told me they arrested three guys."
Sandhu said Bahia, a 33-year-old mother of three young girls, was unhappy in her marriage and spent long hours working on the blueberry farm she and her husband, Baljinder Singh Bahia, owned in Cloverdale, B.C.
Another relative, Parminder Chohan, said police have told them who was arrested.
"This is the thing you didn't want it to see at the end, that somebody that close can do such kind of stuff. We are very sad but happy on the other side."
Police confirmed to CBC News that arrests were made in connection with the case, but would not identify the suspects. Police said they would reveal more information at a news conference scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. PT Monday.
Bahia was found dead insider her home in Surrey's Newton neighbourhood in February 2007 by relatives who also lived in the home.
The story made headlines when Bahia's husband identified himself as a suspect right after his wife's death, but police said at the time he was not on their official suspects list.
