Police have charged a 22-year-old man with second-degree murder in the beating death of a man in a Pointe-Claire apartment building Wednesday morning.

Sean Brennan appeared in a Montreal court Thursday and was remanded for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

Brennan was arrested Wednesday after someone called 911 to report a loud argument in the building at the corner of Douglas Shand and Pardo avenues.

Police arrived to find that Bryan Bougie, 41, had been severely beaten, according to Const. Anie Lemieux.

Bougie was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Lemieux said.

The charge of second-degree murder means the Crown attorney does not believe the murder was planned or deliberate.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of Bougie's death.

This is the fifth homicide investigated by Montreal police this year
