A 71-year-old woman is dead following a crash involving the van she was driving and an intercity bus on Highway 11, police say.
RCMP reported Friday that they were called at 11:45 a.m. CST to the crash scene, which was about 500 metres south of the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 2, roughly two kilometres south of Prince Albert, Sask.
"A southbound 1991 Dodge Caravan was making a U-turn on Highway 11 and was struck by a southbound 2005 MCI Coach bus operated by Northern Bus Lines of Prince Albert," RCMP said in a media release.
Police said the woman, who was from Saskatoon, died at the scene and that her passenger, a 24-year-old man, also from Saskatoon, was taken to Prince Albert's Victoria Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released.
At the family's request, police said no names would be released.
Nobody on the bus was hurt. Passengers were transferred to another bus to continue their journey.
Highway 11 was reduced to one lane of traffic for about four hours while police investigated.
"Road and weather conditions are not considered to be a factor in this collision," police said, noting their investigation was continuing.
