Man guilty of sex assault on Surrey girl, 9

A man accused of sneaking into a Surrey, B.C., girl's bedroom in the middle of the night has been found guilty of sexual assault.

Kyle Wayne Berkson broke into the nine-year-old girl's home about 3:45 a.m. April 23, 2010.

The girl testified that she woke up with Berkson on top of her and that he sexually touched her, licked her cheek and made threats before leaving.

His DNA was later found on her cheek and a pill bottle belonging to him was found on her bedroom floor.

Berkson, 36, was a friend of the family, had visited the home before and was an experienced locksmith, the court heard during the trial.

Berkson was also found guilty of break and enter to commit sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and uttering threats.

He will be sentenced at a later date following a psychological assessment.
