An Ontario teacher accused of trying to kill his wife while the couple vacationed in Jamaica has been remanded to prison there.

A judge ordered Paul Martin be held in Clarks Town jail in northwest Trelawny parish until a Feb. 28 hearing.

Martin's attorney did not immediately comment on the case.

Martin was charged with attempted murder after his wife Cathy was found at the side of a road with her throat slashed two days before Christmas.

She is recovering after surgery and has previously testified that her husband attacked her after a marital quarrel.

Meanwhile, 43-year-old Paul Martin has claimed his wife was assaulted by carjackers.

Authorities said the attack occurred on the last day of a Caribbean vacation that had been planned to help the couple save their rocky marriage.
