Trevor Rankin of Ottawa has been missing in Charlottetown since Christmas Eve.

Charlottetown police are searching for an Ottawa man who has been missing since Christmas Eve.

Police said Trevor William Rankin, 38, was in the Charlottetown area visiting family, but has been missing since around 2:20 a.m. AT Friday.

Rankin's girlfriend, Joanne Muto, said he was out for a drink at Hunter's Ale House, at the intersection of Prince and Kent streets, with his nephew Josh that night.

Rankin then went to ISE's Bar, about two kilometres north on University Avenue, his sister Jill said.

Rankin and his nephew parted ways, and exchanged text messages around 2:20 a.m. Muto said Rankin called her around 2:30 a.m., but she missed it. His phone has been off since.

"This is totally out of character for him," Muto said.

"He travelled from Ottawa to be with his family, so he wouldn't do this."

Jill Rankin said the RCMP has been notified about the disappearance.

The family is waiting and hoping for news.

"We don't know where to go," Jill Rankin said.

Muto is currently in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., but was set to travel to P.E.I. on Dec. 29 to be with Rankin to celebrate the new year.

Rankin is about five feet nine inches tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. He has short brown hair, blue eyes, and was clean-shaven before he went missing. Police said he was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt, jeans, and a black peacoat.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen Rankin to contact them.
